View Full Version : The Mixerman Radio Show with Slipperman and Aardvark
Mixerman
November 9th, 2006, 11:26 AM
Hey everyone,
All the segments (including one never before heard) are loaded up in our little Mixerman Radio Show "Radio." If you look at the top of the forum, where The Womb logo resides, you will see to the far right, a little radio. Click on that and you can listen to the new entries as you browse these forums.
Slippy, Aardy and I are in the midst of planning our next show, where we will once again take your calls. More information will be forthcoming.
Please feel free to use this thread to discuss the Mixerman Radio Show with Slippy and Aardy.
Now, the forum with the same name . . .
For a long time now, my forum really hasn't been about anything. I want to talk about making records again. So I've invited Aardy and Slippy to join me on this forum, so that we can answer your questions. In general, we don't know the best mic for under $500, and if we do, we don't care to say. I know for a fact, that if anyone asks that, you are in for a slipperbeating beyond compare. That's not an invitation to ask such a question. What we can help with, is just about any situation that you might find yourself in. I promise you, one of us, if not all of us have been there. We know this business inside and out. We've dealt with every kind of client. We've been through the learning curve. We've enjoyed successes only to have to start over again. We've reinvented ourselves in this business on more than one occasion. And we all bring a unique perspective based on our locations, and the kinds of records we've done over the years.
That's not to say that we are the only ones answering posts around here. It is a discussion forum, after all. But we intend to be an active part of this forum, and we look forward to some interesting looks into the future of our business and what the fuck we're going to do when the bottom completely drops out. I'm sure our friend Bob Olhsson will have plenty to interject there.
Which brings me to my next point. As you've seen, Bob Olhsson's forum is inside of my forum. Here's a hint to you. VISIT HIS FORUM EVERY DAY. There are only a handful (if that) of people on this planet that can provide you the kind of insight and pure knowledge of the history of this business that Bob brings. He is a wealth of information, and I for one want to make sure this wealth is shared and brought to the forefront. In fact, go there now!
Go!
Enjoy,
Mixerman

My question is...
why do I have more lighters, microphones, effects pedals, *insert item here* than I do god damn guitar picks???????
I am gonna start making players that come through here donate a pick a session.

CK, you're on the right track, but your plan is flawed for a number of reasons.
1. If you need guitar picks, it's because guitar plaayers are coming without enough picks in the first place. Therefore, even the donated pick will be lost during the course of that session.
2. If a guitar player doesn't bring a pick, then he's obviously a finger-style player and he doesn't need a picck anyway.
3. For every one guitar pick that is donated, you will be supplying same guitar player with 3 more. Even using "new" math, this doesn't work out.
Given this, I have a kind of silly and nonsensical recommendation, but I'm going to go out on a limb here.
Buy $20 worth of picks, then add a $0.25 "pick fee" to your invoices.

You still have the picks... just not where you think...
Check the Couch....
Wash Machine...
Dryer....
Where the Cat hides the toys...
and check the floor...
Choose picks of a contrasting color to your decor, no clear ones... Floresecent ones are good because the black light helps you find them.
Picks should always be thrown out or boiled after a session. (look where guitarists put them)
Using metal picks and a metal detector during load out for pick recovery...
X-ray the pets....

$20 worth of picks these days gets me about 7 picks.
NEW math is flawed. We need to look at THE math.

My maths has always been good.
Buy a box of plectrums and then sell them for a dollar each.
I tell you, beggars can't be choosers in a position like that so fuckin' shaft them.
No I'm not jewish but close enough.

CK, can't you get some custom picks made up with your studio name on them, what's your studio called again, "Political Arguments Recording"?...

I really dig the Mixerman Radio up there in the upper right. That is WAY bitchin'.
And I have been truly enjoying the Mixerman Radio Show with Slippy and Aaardy. I'm hoping for many more segments to come.
I will not say anything negative about PSW or Mark Herman.
I have been programmed, and I fucking like it, OK??!!
(What can I say? The vibe around here is good... so I stick around and post. And posting is sort of like recording, if you catch my drift. I'd rather record here than at that last studio we were booked in. Ahem.)
