Have ya ordered yours yet?
This has got to be the coolest little box i've seen in yrrrs.
Gorgeous, elegant, sexy, powerful. A real yagottahavit gadget.
Check out the MacWorld Keynote (http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/j47d52oo/event/), or @ least the iphone intro. Exciting stuff. :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

Life's too short to pay $500 for something that won't even work with my cell phone provider...
Besides, I don't want to lose my cell phone, internet browser, iPod, etc., ALL AT THE SAME TIME. And I WILL lose the damn thing...
Cheers, Tim

I don't even own a normal cell phone so I certainly don't get excited by the iPhone.
I guess if you're into that kind of thing though...........
I don't watch TV either.:icon_eek:

If only it was OS X on a phone.
I got excited about this along with a lot of my fellow software development geeks when it was first announced. Then we found out it's going to be a "closed" system - meaning we won't be able to develop custom apps for it and Apple will control all of the software for it.
Kind of lost interest at that point.

Pluses: Safari Browser, OSX built in, Touch Screen, coolest video iPod for sure, though small storage for video.
Minuses: Technically not a smartphone: the definition of that term is that 3rd parties can write software for it, whereas the iPhone is locked to Mac-supplied applications.
Touch Screen seems cool at first, but without tactile feedback, it's hard to dial in many situations (like driving down the road - not that any of us ever do that). I think it will be a good phone, but as usual, Jobs has done his jedi sales job and convinced the world it is leaps and bounds above anything ever built.
Chuck, as a died in the wool, tried and true Mac Fanboy, I can understand your enthusiasm  .

The only reason I didn't get a Blackberry is because I see a bunch of people everyday that are chained to theirs. To me, the iPhone is just a more seductive ball-and-chain.
If Cisco wins the trademark lawsuit against Apple, Apple should consider renaming the device to something like iSpouse, because after you get one, it will get more touchin' than your other half. :Uh oh:

It IS running OS X... but a subset of OS X.
Mach kernel, Darwin low end, Appkit, Webkit...
Here, John Gruber's take on it:

I still like it better than my Treo 650
hell, I "downgraded" to the SLVR L7 because I was tired of the rediculous size of my SmartPhone.

Gruber says:
"Mac nerds, and Cocoa programmers in particular, would look at the iPhone’s system and agree, Holy crap, that really is Mac OS X."
Well, as a Cocoa programmer I look at it and say "Holy crap, what a cool device. Too bad I can't write Cocoa programs for it."
That's what I meant when I said if only it was OS X. I can write apps for OS X.
Having said that, it IS a cool device. Just not sure if I'm going to run out and buy one when they hit the streets.

Sure, but Apple have said that there *will* be apps for the iPhone, but Apple will have much more control over what is released to the public etc. I suppose if you're not a big development house, then yeah, that does preclude you from developing software for it.
But I'm assuming widgets will be able to be put on there... have you got the free Dashcode beta?
