View Full Version : Help out a moron with the exs-24

OK, quick question. This is driving me nuts. I'm doing some string stuff. I'm trying to create a fake quartet sound, and the only usable string sounds I've found are the ones in the orchestral section. But... they're groups of violins, cellos etc as opposed to individual violins, cellos etc.

Which sucks. My plan was just to write the parts with this thing and run it through a mates sampled strings plugin which has individual instruments. However, I've noticed that on some notes the exs samples actually do play solo instruments, then other parts it sounds like there are multiple players in each section. So now I'm wondering.... have they layered samples in a way where I could just edit the instrument to only hear one player? Or is it just random samples that are solo?

(oh yeah, the reason I ask, despite having the sampler right in front of me, is because I'm too stupid to figure out the answer :lol:, and trust me I've tried)

If you open the EXS24 Editor and under Zone, choose Select Zone of last played key you can figure them out and delete the others and re-save the instrument, or drag them into Redmatica's Keymap to create a new EXS24 instrument or create a new one in the EXS24 Instrument Editor.

But assuming your fucking time and fucking aggravation is worth at least a shitty $75 per hour, why not simply go and download these fucking instruments for 99 smackeroos

By jove, that might just do the trick. Thanks chum! Most excellent.

Be honest, me without the foul mouth kind of freaks you out doesn't it?:lol:

Hehe thanks for the tip man, I'm listening to some samples now and it sounds pretty damn good, at least on these laptop speakers haha. Should be cool. Although the next drama is getting them... my connection here is hopeless. But I'm sure I can figure something out.

As for the zone thing, you lost me at zone. I have no fucking idea what you are talking about haha, I've never really played with the plugin properly yet, I always work with real performers. I'll take a look in the morning and see what the deal is and then re-read your post. Cheers

If you go into the "edit" window of the EXS it will soon be abundantly clear. A zone is basically a range of keys where a given sample will be used.

You'll find it's not that difficult. The ESX-24 is not a complex beast.
