I just finished mixing a project for a local band called Simon. Here's a link to the song the record was named for. Yes, it's a cover of the Jimmy Dean hit.
Simon - Big Bad John (http://dikledoux.com/mp3_files/09 Big Bad John.mp3)
Then there's:
Simon - Fishing (http://dikledoux.com/mp3_files/01 Fishing.mp3)
A song that's actually about fishing. These may start/end abruptly since there's actually no stopping between tunes on the record. What's that you ask?
The story:
Lee Johnsey and his band Simon did the bass, drums and guitar tracks all in one pass for the entire 19 song record at a local studio that's now shut down. That's one take - for 19 songs - warts and all. I essentially got tracks for one 60 minute extravaganza and started with the project from there. (Tip: don't do this if you can avoid it  ) They did the vocals and additional instrumentation at my place after that, then I mixed and sent out for mastering with Kevin Cubbins at Young Ave. Sound.
To call the band/concept Simon quirky is an understatement. But I've become quite a fan and really enjoyed learning from the challenges the project presented.
Fry away!
