A good friend of mine just purchased a 1975 duel showman... Dick Dales signature amp of choice, a cool thing to considering that my friend plays in a surf rock band. The monster is awesome and in perfect nick, just needs a new grill cloth on the cabinet housing the 2 original 15' speakers *drools*

Fucked thing is though, for what it is, I would have thought finding one here in Aus for sale would be like searching for a needle in a haystack making the price exorbitant... but holy shit... he only paid $1,100 AUD for it.... jesus.

I've seen Dick Dale three times. My ears are STILL ringing. Those fuggers are LOUD!

Why do mothers name their boys 'Dick'?

Tradition of naming kids after their father, I guess.

I've found that with most gear (especially guitar gear) its all about "fashionability"; buying a well-known amp is much more expensive than buying an equivalent amp that is lesser known. I bought a sunn 190 from the 60's/70's for $175 and I've seen/heard it KILL a JCM 800 which cost at least 5 times as much.

I have a 1968 Dual Showman head. No cab though. About $300USD roughly 10 years ago.

It's the same amp as a Twin Reverb except it isn't a combo. And mine doesn't have reverb -- I think some of them do.

It's good for the "clean, yet warm" sound (intro on "Warmth of the Sunshine").

You can get some sustain if you crank it (Cream's studio version of "Sitting On Top of the World" for example).

agreed. This one has the reverb and tremolo and it's really fun to patch channel one to channel two and really push the amp and blend different textures together. It has some really lovely tones.

I think they all had tremolo but only the tall heads had reverb.

I do like the Fender spring reverbs, but if I want spring reverb on a guitar amp, I have to use the '67 Deluxe Reverb or the '99 JCM2000.

I'm fond of DSL's, I've never been to fond of TSL's...

I once heard an amazing reverb from a mesa 5:50 1X12 combo set to 5 watts and cranked on the master. Minding the tubes were changed over to JJ's or something....
