It just comes naturally.

I prefer to make it sound like a 32kbps MP3.

Through a garden hose.

Being swung around like a fuckin' lasso.

Well all right, I don't exactly prefer to do it that way, but that's just the way it comes out.

I don't mash much music...

maybe I spend too much time having to sit through my kids violin playing.. and orchestra rehearsals...

But Im still trying to learn how to crush metal...

I have an older AMR Comp/Lim/DeEsser that is great for crushing and simulating that digital harshness my analog rig doesn't do naturally...

Heh heh.

I just sent some mixes to a reputable ME, he told me it was the first time he'd worked on rock mixes without any limiting on them this year.

Nothing on the 2 buss at all.

One UAD-1 Pultec on the OHs, one cut on the kick at 175 and a hint of 140 for flavor.

Maybe I need more plug ins to keep up with the sausage factory, maybe I'll stick with making the sounds on the way in.

Maybe one day I'll get that DVD Chaz promised me for washing his car.

I assume you meant he said it in a nice way?

Yeah, but still insisted on "vibing it up."

Tee hee.

Twas a very dynamic project, no limiting at all, even at mastering, just some 2 buss compression and level at the converter.

Just because you can...

....or can't.

Grab what ya got, turn 'at sumbitch on, track, mix, season to tatse, when the song in your head comes out of your speakers then you make sure it sounds the same on a 39.00 boom box and then

STOP.

Hire an ME.

{edit: You don't think I actually took typing lessons, do ya?}

I think we are saying the same thing.

Although there are times when some glue is really a lifesaver, it is most times an easy way out.

Balances.

Oh no I di' int.

I tend to beat an L2 and a C4 into submission for no other reason than that a mastering engineer is a foreign concept around these parts for local death metal bands. I'm sure someone could do it a lot better than I, and I'm the first to admit a bit of ignorance in the dark arts of mastering, but at the end of the day the guys wanna walk away with a CD they can get printed...

Oh woe.

Gimme a jazz band and I'd be lost. And very annoyed with myself for being lost.

Onetrickpony, signing off...

Doesn't matter whether it's done there or not. Once it hits FM, it sounds like that anyhow.

I for one use my beloved BeeeringggeHr Compusser - backwards - to do that and then put it through my Goldstar Dac to get that sweet smoothe sound we all like!!

By the way?? Shouldnt it be: Marsh it like a bastard?? ;)

Someone mentioned jazz.

I'll compress that shit a lot more than I do metal.

Hook, "Marshing it" is when you enver touch a gain knob, so your signal is as low as possible and noise as high as possible
