Hello everyone,
In spring I picked up a nice Morris EB0-Copy,
and I want to get new strings for it.
Has anyone recommendations for 30" scale bass strings?
I'm looking for flats or halfrounds.
All the best,

Well, the only ones I carry are GHS stainless steel "Brite Flats." (WTF does that even mean? Isn't that kind of the point - flats aren't bright?) The sound good to me, though.

I play a 30" scale bass and am VERY happy with GHS Precision Flatwound strings. I've also gotten good results with Thomastik-Infeld flats, and I've heard very good things about Pyramids (both of which are hopefully more affordable for you there than they are here in the States!).
Cheers, Tim

Thanks, Gabriel, Tim,
the GHS seem to be available without an epic fuss,
even my preferred internet string dealer has a very limited variety of shortscale strings.
Yep, Pyramid is pretty cheap round here,
but they had bad quality problems in the past,
so I don't use them any more.
Thomastik Infeld strings are mostly great,
I liked every flavour I tested except the George Benson Jazz strings,
these are fuckin' expensive and feel and sound like shit to me.
But Thomastiks aren't exactly cheap in my neck of the woods either,
I get the standard GHS Boomers here for 4.75€ and the Thomastik Jazz go for 13.75€...
Still I dig them.

Keks....I hate you! :D
Amuse yourself by crunching $49.95 Australian dollars into a currency convertor.
That's what I paid for a set of D'Addario long scale 45 - 100's roundwound last week...and that price is pretty competitive in Perth.
Thomastik BASS STRINGS for less that $20 Australian?
Fuck me sideways!
Their Plectrum Acoustic guitar strings retail here for around $28.
These are the joys of being in a small market thousands of miles from anywhere.
:headpalm:

D'oh,
I meant the guitar strings.
You know, I'm not really a bass player,
I just end up with four strings more often recently.
Let's see...
the D'addarios would set you back € 20,75,
The Thomastik Jazz Roundwounds are € 42,60, for Bass strings, this time.
But that's an internet shop,
a local shop would be a little steeper, I guess.
Sorry for mixing that up...

Yes, these "bright" flatwounds give the smooth feel, but not the duller tone. Pointless!
Pyramids are definitely the best, I got those for my re-issue Hofner Beatle Bass. I ended up emailing Pyramid (they're German) because Thomann only had light gauge. They were very helpful and polite. They will supply you with whatever mix of gauges you prefer, very reasonable price. They supplied the strings that originally came with the Hofner bass. O, and they sound super. :)

Hmmm...the currency convertor I tried spat out 35 Euros and change...
I used the xe.com site.

That comes out to just under $60 Ozbucks...which would probably be quite reasonable over here...if you didn't have to add dealer markup, retail markup, freight, sales tax, import duty etc...
:D

Yeah. I remember walking into a music stor eon my first trip to Melbourne, looking at the prices, doing a quick bit of mental arithmetic and thinking "Hey, They have the same import policy here as they do in Malaysia: Price em like they're hand carried by supermodels flying business class" :D
In fact, nearly as bad as the UK used to be...

Quoted for emphasis, and as an explanation in and of itself.
I think that set would cost me about $20 US. Give or take (with local sales tax and whatnot), but that's about the going rate at Banjo Mart.
When I was playing heavier strings on my 35" 5 string, I used to routinely blow anywhere from 35-50 bucks on a set of strings made up of singles (because I couldn't find a set I liked). And those were just GHS Boomers.
...and I was going through them at the rate of a set per 2 to 3 shows. And playing about 100 shows a year. I was a bit of a basher. I've blown more money on bass strings than basses at this point...and I've blown a decent amount on basses!

Nope. Perth pricing seems the same as everywhere else pricing. We get reamed here.

There is a special deal for bass players in heaven...you'll get all that back!
Funny, they don't offer this plan to guitar players, and mixers...well you know where they go...Evil!
