Has anyone else had problems getting the Trash preset on the bass amp track loaded? I've tried it on LE and M-Powered systems and it doesn't load on either. I just need to know what the "Pre-filter" and "Box Model" settings are. I can see the rest in the video. Could someone that was able to load the preset share those with me? Thanks

Heh there,
The trash preset loaded ok for me but I have had a similar problem with the DUY WIDE preset on the 2buss... maybe plugin version is different or something of that nature???:Roll eyes:

Anyway, the important thing is to try and understand what Charles is aiming for when using the plugs so as to give an insight on their various uses...don't fret too much about not having the preset.Get it as close as possible from the video - THEN make up your own one: find YOUR sound. Make a Remix!:Coolio: ...this is an element of MilaR that is great fun and great for developing skills!

Cheers, Bren!

Thanks Bren,
I agree with you, I was just looking for that starting point. DUY Wide does not load for me either.

Sadly DUY plugs are TDM only...Sorry, I got nothing on the Trash preset.

I'm not sure what's causing this, but let me see if I can help.

What v of PT + CPU OS r u running?

Also, did you leave the sessions in the folder they came in?

Here's a note from MiLaR's Read Me that may apply:

The Sessions + Chapters

Each of the sessions (see below) corresponds to a similarly named chapter on the DVD. In the chapter we will go through every single plug-in in that session. To find out about why each plug was used and what it was used for you can watch the DVD. To get a better hands-on understanding of it for yourself, experiment with the session adding one plug at a time, changing the settings, tweaking the tracks, etc. This way you can get a feel for what each of the plug-ins are really doing.

The Plug-In Settings

To encourage you to experiment and still be able to get back to the original mix and settings (if you care to), every single plug-in has a named preset to make it easy. The presets are named after the track they are on and the function of the plug-in. (i.e. A compressor on the lead vocal would have a preset called Lead Voc Comp.)

IMPORTANT: To insure the plug-in settings will always be available to you while you’re working on a session, it is necessary to keep the sessions in the folders they came in along with the corresponding Plug-In Settings folder (see above). If you move the session, or the Plug-In Settings folder, your plug-ins will no longer be able to find their presets.

Thanks for the reply Charles,
I did keep the sessions in the folders they came in. I am running PT 7.1cs10. I have M-Powered in my home studio and LE at work. I tried opening the Bass session on both systems and had the same problem. My home system is a dual core AMD and work is dual Xeon, both running XP Pro. Trash is the latest version (1.09)

JBoggs: DUY Wide and Valve are available in RTAS with the "Everpack" bundle. Tape is TDM only. (for now)

sssshhhh... + you're welcome, kevin.

So, just to clarify for this trouble-shooting, let's define presets vs. settings

Settings are just the values in each of the parameters of the plug.

Presets are the stored group of parameters for every plug-in in the MiLaR sessions that are mentioned above in the Read Me (i.e. Bass Amp Trash).

Cool?

So, here's 4 questions I need to understand 1st:

Are you saying that the settings for Trash (not the preset, but just the parametrs as I set them) don't come up in the plug when you open the session for the 1st X?

Are you able to see the preset for Trash (that come from the preset folder) from the plug's GUI? IOW, the grey digidesign portion of the plug that's @ the top. I think it's called Bass Amp Trash. Can you see that?

Are you able to see the presets (not just settings) for other plugs?

And you say that most of the settings are coming up fine, but not Trash?
I've got some ideas, but kinda need to know the answers to help.

Thanks.

I stand corrected, thanks for the update...time to sell some blood.

This is my experience with Trash and Wide on an LE system with native plug-ins.

Trash

If I open any of the LE sessions, Trash loads up just fine with the settings intact.

If I open up one of the HD sessions or a plug-in centric session (e.g., the Waves centric Bass session) Trash gets reported as a missing plug-in and doesn't load. I then load my native version of Trash and I'm able to manually load the settings file by navigating to the saved preset file.

Wide

My native version never loads up when I open any of the sessions that use Wide. The difference between this and Trash is that even when I load my native version of Wide I'm unable to load the preset file. When I navigate to the file, it's dimmed out and I can't select it as a valid settings file to load into the plug-in.

I've never worried about the Wide preset since the settings are minimal and are covered clearly on the DVD.

i've had this issue with wideon LE system also. (winxp pro, intel coreduo)...except the difference is when i locate the preset in the folder, it is selectable, not greyed out.... but when i try to load the preset it gives me an invalid preset errror message..
as you said though Dion, it's not a real problem issue as the settings are covered in the vid.

any more thoughts on this charles?

cheers!

As far as Trash goes, my thinking is that the problem is that the TDM version of Trash, which was actually an HTDM plug, cuz the sessions were created in 6.x, has a compatability issue with the RTAS version of Trash.

Some of you may be running 7.x versions (as kb511 is above), and that may also have something to do with it.

My guess is that both these problems may be plug in software related.

Any thoughts guys?

Possibly hit the nail on the head there Charles....

I'm on 7.1cs10 like Kb511.

Thanks for taking the time to help with this. When I open up the session, Trash is in italics. I manually load it and it comes up with the factory default settings. When I import the preset from the settings folder, it comes in and is also in italics and the default settings remain loaded in Trash. I can see the settings in the "Trash" section in the video so I can get pretty close, but the "Pre-filter" and "Box Model" settings were never shown. Could you give me a rough idea of those? As others said, the "DUY Wide" settings are clearly shown in the video, so we're all set there. Every other plug and it's settings through out all the sessions loads fine.

So, ur sayin that the plug-in comes up de-activated?

That makes sense. Cuz it's an HTDM plug that no longer exists. (Why they don't make it so it automatically switches over to an RTAS version I don't know, but anyways...)

Here's a trick you may not know about that you can use in this situation.

Copying + Pasting Plug-in Settings

1st of all, do you know about COPYING paramater settings from one plug-in to another? Just to the left of the Plug-in preset name pop down menu, is a tiny up + down arrow. This is another pop down menu that has a number of things you can do with the presets. Including copy the parameter settings of the plug into a clipboard, that you can then paste onto another instatiation of the same plug. Make sense so far?

So, the thing is there is also a hot key to do this. It is (i believe) Shift-Command-C for Copy, + Shift-Command-V for Paste. All you need to do is highlight (or click on) the plug-in name in the insert of the channel + then do the hot key for copy. Then click on the plug name in the channel you want to copy it do + do the hot key for paste. Very fast for copying + pasting around plug settings.

Now, how does this relate to you? Well, what most people aren't aware of is that even when a plug is deactivated, whether you have it in your plug-in folder or not (as is the case of the HTDM version of Trash), you CAN copy it's settings. Pretty cool? Are u following where I'm going?

So, what this means for you is that when you open the session + the plug is deactivated, you can still copy its settings over to the RTAS version of the plug. What I do is instantiate the new RTAS plug just beneath the deactivated one, copy over the settings, + toss the old one.

If you don't have the old version still in the track, you can import it with the import track function.

Tell me if this works.

When I try to copy the settings from the inactive Trash plug to one that I inserted I get a dialog box saying the setting cannot be pasted because it is not compatible. When I try to import them from the settings folder I get the "selected file is not a valid setting file for the plug in" message. Thanks for the screen shot. Are there any other settings in the other sections of Trash, such as Box Model or Pre-filter that were used, or was it only the "Trash" section that was activated.

Sorry, that's not a MiLaR bass screenshot. It just happens to be the same garage fuzz patch. Kinda (really!) misleading on my part. I actually put that there to show the preset menu arrow.

I'll shoot an email to iZotope. They really are great guyz. Extremely helpful. I'm sure they are familiar with this HTDM to RTAS problem + can tell us what the workaround is. I'll point them to this thread.

For some reason when I open the Waves Centric drums session it looks for a IR setting "Plate 140_xcg1V2.wir." When I open IR it states that "IR was not loaded." I searched the disc and I can not find that file. In IR it says "A: DYE DRUM PLATE."

Reallly sorry about the IR-1 impulse response confusion. It's my fault totally.

I thought that IR was on the disk, but as it turns out it's only available as a download from www.acoustics.net (http://www.acoustics.net) (Waves IR site.) BTW - an absolutely awesome site with tons more killer IR's for IR-1. Ya gotta check it out.

Here's a link where you can download the IR: Plate 140 (http://www.acoustics.net/ir/ir_samp.asp?ir_id=149)

It's the top one "Setting 1"

Thanks for the link. Unfortunatly it looks as if the site is down. I'll try later.

Weird. The site is up, but the Plate 140 link isn't working. Even if I navigate to it on their site. When I get to the page, it's dead.

If it doesn't work in a few days, let me know. I'll find another solution.

Thanks!

Hi!

Still cannot import preset for Izotope Trash, I installed the latest version 1.14. I hoped Charles Dye told the developers about the bug, but it seems like they did not fix it.

I'm using PT MP 7.4 on PC, tried to import preset from HD Accel Mac folder, HD Accel Win, LE & M-powered, no one works. When trying to import any of 3 file I see "The selected file is not a valid settings file for the plug-in".

It was almost easy to find the box-model, I believe "AMP - Sterling Combo" is the setting Charles Dye used in the song. But it's hard to build the same EQ curve. Even using frequency analyzers I can't get the same sound, like on the bass stem. Maybe because RBass works different on RTAS and TDM, but I'm not sure.

Please, anybody, who is able to open/import the preset, show the screens of "box-model" and "pre-filter". Many many thanks in advance. Nothing else helps for me.

I did.

iZotope told me they can't fix it. :(

It has to do with the new RTAS version of the plug that cannot read the old version presets. (!!!) This problem applies to any1 who created settings or presets on the previous version of Trash + are trying to now open sessions with the new version of the plug.

Sorry bout that... it does suck.

Let me see if I can come up with a solution.
