Just for the hell of it.

'Cause everybody and their brother already knows who I am anyways.

The band "Class of 1984" from Cork Ireland.

2 weeks of totally live(vox included!) tracking and a week of mix.

Should get about 25 tracks all told.

Been doing an AMAZING amount of this type of work this year.

No headphones.

Minimal isolation.

Live to 2" 16 track at 15ips.

More fun than you can shake 10 sticks at.

As you can see from the various shenanigans photos near the bottom.

What would a session be without five cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon?

Pure hell, that's what.

Cheers

Ah...I see you have some Irish lads in to teach you how to drink seriously!

You are all doomed.

But what a way to go!

Fun stuff!

Thanks for sharing.

If I may ask, what were you using the pair of 351s for?

Or did you just have them turned on for the mojo :Coolio:

It's funny.

We have had 3 staff birthdays with attendant parties, a general bedlam random house/tent party at Dasher's place planned WELL before we knew of the bands arrival. Iceman's "departure" soire(in which he decided NOT to leave for another week under great duress from band), and just some general "hang with the band, they're from IRELAND for fooks sake" gatherings every other night or so.

In short... I think we've had TWO nights off from some sort of festive after session undertaking in the last 13 days.

MUCH more shenanigans than we would usually ENDURE(HOHOHO) in similar time frames.

No matter. All good.

We have also quietly completed 2 other records during this same time frame... and are starting another one in tracking this Saturday, and finishing yet another in mix by this weekend.

Wonderful thing about running a 4 control room shop with a dozen morons running around pushing everything from faders to brooms.

We've got till about months end to bring CO84 thru tracking and mix and toss them on the plane.

Just thought I'd show some of this as a lark and insight into why I'm so attached to the concept of "Record making as a communal undertaking".

It ain't the partying. Which I'm pretty much too old and beat up for in any profound sense these days.

It's the amazing sense of community and singularity of purpose.

WE CAME TO MAKE RECORDS.

A mission. A life pursuit.

Treasuring every day I can still make it happen.

And fondly ruminating on how charmed an existence I have led for the last 3 decades or so.

Hundreds and hundreds of bands and records.

Madness and laughter.

Spectacular triumphs and unmitigated disasters.

Friends made and minds lost.

One mantra: TRY TO MAKE IT "BETTER".

But less apparently, and MORE IMPORTANTLY:

PERPETUAL SUSPENSION OF ADULTHOOD AND ALL THE IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE IT DOES TO THE SOUL.

Something I will NEVER, NEVER change my mind about or apologize for.

And... if I ever do, you hereby have my written and expressed permission to blow my fucking brains out.

HOHOHO. Pt II.

That is all.

SM.

I thought there was a caption under those photos Nobby. Then again... I've thought a lot of things that weren't real over the years!!!

Anyhoo.

My FAVORITE ROOM PRE'S IN DE VERLD!!!

Gotta use phantom power boxes with them, so a minor organizational wrinkle... but otherwise...

LOVED.

BTW.

In a little side story of explanation.

My "B" live room does NOT normally look like homeless persons are squatting there.

It's an irregular shaped 30' x 40' rectangle with 100 yr. old polished oak floors and multiple iso booths.

It actually looks fairly "money", at least as a Journeyman level studio kinda way.

The "Shed" that Geebo(studio manager) and his evil minions built from all kinza shit(we found laying around and nailed and taped up 60 ways to Sunday), is a desperate attempt to RECREATE the rehearsal conditions and general ambiance of the shack by the river(not kidding!) the band write and play in every day in Cork Ireland.

Gotta do whatcha gotta do!!!

They're not too shabby on vox either. I have a pair, although one of them needs service -- starts making noise after a while. I have a Crown 4 channel phantom supply.

That's a wonderfully vibey room and the pics can't really do it justice.

Great story! I love it!

Glad to see you're still making records and loving it :Coolio:

What I would have given to join you guys and party like a fecking eejit.

Smaller but still potent bedlam keeping me at bay over here.

I shalt soon cross the waters in my long ship. Promise.

Obviously I don't have first hand experience on this, but it seems like your people are not good at joining the parties, no?
More like having your own at the expense of the host)))
