is there an easy way to make an 808 drop in pro tools without having to buy any of the hardware?

An 808 drop? That makes me think of when an arrangement drops down to everything but the low rumble of an 808 kik drum (prevalant in hip hop). But I don't think that's what you mean. Could you be a bit more descriptive?

Thanks,

Mixerman

There are some 808 samples here:

Maybe useful as a starting point?

Yeah, but you'd have to run away from the pawnshop mighty fast.

he's talking about using a kick drum (or a tom or anything) as a key input to trigger an 808 kick

If that's all, then he should get the 808 sample from my post above and follow Kenny's instructions in the Kick Enhancement video.

If it is that, I use a rim shot very loud as key for most of the old gear that needs a trig, it works quite well.

Trigger should nomally be a 5 volt signal on most of the gear I know.

Now from the top of my head, I think that 808 trigger voltage should be as high as 15 volts, but I'm not hundred percent sure.

He could, but seeing as this sample has been done a million times, and to perfection for about 500,000 of those times, why bother?

The 808 kik is more than just a straight burst of sine wave. There is a well timed lilt in a great long 808 kik.

Oh, and "cats" play jazz. I believe in thiscase the correct terminology would be "dawg."

Enjoy,

Yeah, well, where is "dawg" and why isn't he here explaining what the hell he really needs instead of using hipster terminology with which some of us might not be familiar, i.e., "808 drop"?
