WHY SECONDS COUNT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piofZLySsNc&feature=player_embedded)

Dramatic video of the rapid growth and fire spread of the average room contents fire in a house. Same could hold true of a fire in a control room, green room, garage, practice space, or stage area.

Also worth your time to read is my 2004 article FIRE SAFETY AND CODE ISSUES IN PUBLIC VENUES (http://www.radiationroom.com/rrs/fire.htm). I can't stress enough about fire safety. Important stuff to know about.

I watched this earlier. Sobering. I finally realized what was wrong.

There's no egg-crate foam on the walls OR ceiling!

How do you expect to burn a room down in under 1:30 without egg crate foam?

If you've ever witnessed first hand a large amount of polyurethane shipping foam get ripped up by fire you should clearly understand just how dangerous this stuff is when someone decides to try and soundproof a building on the cheap. What is double scary is that The Station Nightclub is by far and wide NOT the only public venue using cheap PU shipping foam for soundproofing and it's only a matter of time until another hundred people are cooked to death in a club fire. I just hope and pray that the people who I care about (including you guys) are at least three states away from it when it happens.

Something else to be noted about any plastic of the urethane family is that it emits cyanide gas when it burns.....

So do PVC based building products such as vinyl siding. Vinyl siding is considered by some fire marshalls to be such a hazard that some fire departments will not let their first responders enter a building covered in vinyl siding until the fire is suppressed. It is only a matter of time until PVC based vinyl siding is outlawed in new construction.

The number of times I've turned the car around to make sure I haven't left the soldering iron on. Scares the shit out of me!
