A friend dropped me this recent clip - I recall another such demonstration but was more shrouded in mystery and less factual than this. I think the basic principle is quite the same as the jecklin disc/baffled stereo, but more involved.

Here it is:

Interesting. I learned that the speakers in my office were R/L swapped :)

I find it surprising that someone with a university degree can talk about 2D sound at length and call it 3D sound.

But maybe it's just because I don't have laptop speakers...

Wow another scientific breakthrough! It's an amazing time to be alive. We now have breakthroughs in all the major sciences like floor wax and feminine hygiene. Shaving and brushing one's teeth are so much better nowadays thanks to our friend science.

And thank the good Lord for all the computer rendered simulations so us unwashed masses can understand how much the scientists have improved our lives. I squirt with joy.

I remember a 3D demo at a long ago AES. It was a recording of getting a haircut that you listened to in headphones and I swear you felt your neck itch from the clippings.

I'm always interested in this sort of thing, but I can't say i found his explanation all that revelatory

I didn't hear anything I haven't already heard on a Pink Floyd record.
