View Full Version : Advice on native plug-in

I've been complaining about my sound possibilities with distorted guitars for a while. Today I made a closer call for it. I dl'ed the 4.4.1 update for UAD-1 and happened to come across a gem, the NEVE 1073 EQ which is a blessing from God. While trying it out it instantly gave me this creamy, lush - yet distinct and held together sound without that harshness that has bothered me for years.
The only thing that pisses me off is it's a UAD plug. Hell I max out a card in a pigs wink. Raw processor power is all over here though. So I need to find the native equivalent. Anyone's got a clue?

i have heard the best reviews for sonalksis of all native plugs. perhaps this is what you'd like...

Thanks!
I recently tried the demo. While being a great EQ it sorta lacks the warmth. Let's put it like this - Cambridge and Sonalksis are both great for surgical EQ'ing. For wider settings it's, well, just ok. The NEVE EQ gives me the feeling of a slight "multiband compressing" - or call it "oomph-factor". Could be the characteristics of being a complete mic pre plug.
I get the same feeling as with the UAD Pultec. It adds something. Is there perhaps a native equivalent of the Pultec Pro out there somewhere?

I kind of like the URS "Fulltec", which comes with their Everything EQ Bundle (http://www.ursplugins.com/ursEVERY.html) or the less expensive FullTec Program EQ - BLT Program EQ Bundle (http://www.ursplugins.com/ursFULLBLT.html). That might get you close.

The URS stuff is worth having.
Then again I use the Sonalksis comp and EQ on every mix.

Waves Vintage bundle if you wanna do anything Neve'ish sounding. They are by quite a nice little margin the best Neve emu's of the ones I've got (URS, Waves, UAD). Compared very favourable to the hardware.
I agree on the Fulltec from URS, btw. Damn good little workhorse. Sounds more or less indistinguishable from the UAD Pultec, btw. Haven't used a real Pultec for years, but I did do a direct comparison of the UAD plug and the hardware, and it was close enough for boogie, at least for me.

I'm sure they wouldn't mind! You DID ask for good native plugs – but if you wanna settle for less ... hehehe

Actually I wouldn't touch your wig! :very happy: I sorta hate Waves even way before trying out. Maybe my goats don't hit the top level.

Why not just buy another card? You can get the basic one for $399 or so.......you already own the plug-ins.

I will. But right now I need native power. I'll get both URS and Sonalksis.
No - the NEVEs are still demo. Sigh. I'm poor.

Which URS package are you getting? The first package I cited, in addition to the Fulltec, also has on offer a plug that purports to replicate a Neve EQ... though I myself have no basis to tell you whether that's just marketing.

It is just marketing, unfortunately... but people still seem to like 'em.

In addition to the above:
I liked the sound of the PSP Neon HR EQ in high-res mode with "FAT" engaged... but that alone chewed up half my poor ole cpu.
I guess that's what "Freeze" is for.

BTW, has anyone heard about that new URS Channel Strip "Pro" that's supposed to be in works? There was an add a while ago in "DIGIZINE" and I've seen nothing since.
