View Full Version : Announcing the Aardvark (and dwoz) "In Rotation Station"

Just talked with Aardvark.
We have been thinking about something for a bit...
What if we pretended that we were BIG TIME MOOKS...
and all these song critiques that crossed our desks were actually submissions for record contracts?
Would we make the same kind of horrific mistakes that the mooks make?
Well, here's our way to find out.
Starting today, when a song critique submission hits our crosshairs, and we both look at each other across the internet and say, "damn"...
...then that song will end up on the mixerman radio dial, on the "in rotation station" channel.
This could be a nice way to get just that little bit of cred for your new song. I mean, if BOTH aardvark and dwoz like your song, it can't TOTALLY suck, right?
Here's the rules:
First off, if you've got a label deal already, don't bother knocking. Unless, of course, Ben Franklin or his many brethren are doing the knocking for you.
Second off, criteria is simple. Both Aardvark and I must not find the song insulting, to either our intelligence or our aesthetic sense.
Third, the song must have been submitted for critique, and then RESUBMITTED. (i.e. remixed).
Fourth, Genre: All songs must be in the "does not suck" genre.
Fifth, license: We'll ask you to sign a very simple and very reasonable agreement that says you actually WANT us to do this, and that its cool.
Sixth, why bother?: because in spite of whatever you might think, aardvark and dwoz actually have a finger on the pulse of success, and can wave our magic wands to make you a household name across the developed world. We can speak canuck-french, and spanish. We rock. Mooks base their entire careers on what we eat for lunch.
Arif Mardin eavesdropped on us at a restaurant in Toronto, and the next day showed up for work in a new suit.
Tony Mottola overheard us lunching with Mariah Carey, and well, now EVERYBODY knows what "melissma" means.
(sorry......sorry).
So, how do you get to "In Rotation Station"? Submit, submit, submit.

That actually explains a lot of things.

Yeah. This is just fucking great. dwoz and Aardy, in their ivory Mook tower, waiting for me to find them the next big thing. I slave down here, listening to the submissions, submitting my critiques, and then emailing them when I've found the "next big thing," only for THEM to take the credit.
I've seen this movie before...

But you can write a book about it later about how THEY found THEM in YOUR forum.
And about what actually REALLY happened in that booth in room A.

Don't listen to Mixerman. He's just peeved that he wasn't ask to join one of the two focus groups that have been cloistered somewhere in the wilderness, who will do our picking for us. One lucky group is all young kids, and one is their parents.
We matrix their opinions, and a certain combination of "parents like/dislike" and "kids like/dislike" gets to be the next big thing.
we are SO GOING TO OWN this industry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are live...well...we are on 'the air' as of now. I tossed a few odds and sods up to see how it's working and Kudos to Goes211 and Crunch...it's abeauty eh!! Go and try it.
Can we add a track or two of your stuff?
Who else is up for it?
How about some seasonal songs...what the hell...err...you know what I mean.
Cheers,

Aardy... if you're asking me specifically, then the answer is yes! if you find something that I have that is in the 'does not suck' genre, then let me know what you want, and i'll get it to you. I've submitted two so far, but i haven't had time to go and really re-do any of the stuff based on the comments yet... but hey... i gotta day job too.....
On the other hand....
if you were referring to the community in general, then that's different....

Great. Can you give me all three as 44.1/192 mp3? I need a file proper as opposed to a link.

Ok.... very excited about the station...
so... question...
is there a way to have the whole thing play at once? in order, or at random? It seems that you have to deliberately select a song and then it plays that song only. then you have to go a hit another one.... 'play all' would be coolio...... Maybe i'm doing wrong? that wouldn't be the first time THAT happened....

The features you describe are desirable and will be available in the, hopefully, near future.
Ideally we will have constant music with some commentary so you can enjoy the radio whilst reading away.
For now we have a limited ability to implement all of the features so please bear with us as these Station Modules are works in progress.
