(Mods, if you think this would be better off in another forum, go for it.)

Ok, so I've just started back in classes at Jack Ortman Academy, and one of the subjects is this:

AUD403 Audio Senior Seminar
This subject is designed to give the student the chance to pursue advanced levels of research. The student will present one audio related research paper to the class and additionally submit the work in formal document form. The student will place their chosen field of study in an interdisciplinary context with intellectual, ethical and historical perspectives.

Anyone got any ideas of topics I could use?

One I cooked up myself was...The rise of home recording and its potential threat to commercial studios... but I'll gladly take suggestions.

I don't need to decide yet, I'm just trying to get a head start on this.

How about how the mp3/iPod is causing the demise of the big studio... and hence the proliferation of the DAW in homes...

Brendo, think long and hard, and then pick something that other people have written about before at length, in reputable sources that you won't feel embarassed about citing academically. A paper on the demise of commercial studios and the rise of home recording is going to be hard to do without a shitload of firsthand research.

how about cocaine? as common as pro-tools in studios, and about as good for music? fuck cokeheads piss me off.

p.s. as a sidenote, i dont really buy the home studios killing the market thing, at least not in my corner of the world. shit, i encourage bands to do it. they arent the same as a studio and can often be used TOGETHER to make good records. usually within 3 months the novelty wears off and they realise you invested all that money building rooms and shit for a reason anyway.

thats where i was going to go with that - pointing out all the benefits of commercial studios over home rigs... could throw in a bit about acoustic design, a bit about equipment standards... yknow, like throw in a bit of everything, all the different things that make a studio different to a demo setup... figured it might be easier to flesh out if i can draw on multiple areas under the one big blanket?
