Hi.

Nice shiny new Womb you got here.

What version of vB is this?

I think the "Quick Reply" feature needs to be... y'know... quicker. It took me a couple of minutes to work out I had to click on some button elsewhere in the post to get it to work - I've never seen this before, is this a feature you've turned on?

Also I noticed that people's rep comments aren't displayed publicly - but I figure this one's a calculated decision.

Cheers,
B.

The ability to edit your own posts after a certain amount of time has elapsed would be great too - also, can we delete our own posts?

Aren't you able to edit your posts immediately after posting?

I think that here, you also have some certain amount of time to edit your post before the system throws up one of those annoying "last edited by" notices, thereby making you look like you barely know what you're doing.

The only thing I'de suggest is that the core(white part) of the main page feels too narrow...a little claustrophobic...don't ask me why, but I like wider threads.

So, maybe thin out the borders a little?.....or just have the one side with 'stuff' on it?

Call me crazy...glad to be here regardless.

After a certain amount of time, you can't do shit to them.

And you can't delete your own posts - so if you want to get rid of one, the only reasonable thing you can do is edit within that window, and type "del".

I actually think this is a GOOD idea, and forces people to think before they type, because after they type, they can't take it back. Just MHO.

It also means if you come back to a thread with new info, you need to create a new reply to it - like I did at the start of this thread.

Yes, but the serial nature of internet message board conversations pretty much dictates that once you've read the beginning of a thread, you won't read it again. You just read and respond to the replies. Being able to edit the content of a post that was read days ago just leaves people in the dark, no?

Add it later. Who cares. You bidding for internet byte conservation?

It would be nice to have one per post cos I am exceedingly lazy and find scrolling to bottom not so excellent..

But thank you for pointing it out..Perhaps the 'page down' button will help me...

Still having a wee bit of trouble with the new forum. Can somebody tell Mixerman that the banner on the right is not working out. To reiterate, I'm running OSX 10.4.8, Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3), on a G5 PowerMac.

The banner on the right is overlapping any of the posts that are wider than 2/3rds of the screen. Some of the posts are going past the right boundary, and I can not scroll over to see the ends of the sentences.

I do not see anything in the user control panel to rectify it. My display is set for 1024 x 640. This is the only forum where I am having this kind of problem, so I'm tending to not think it is my machine.

Personally, I think the banner should be on the left side, not the right side.

Personally, I think you should try a different browser. I often hear the word 'Safari' used in anger. I hit this site from 3 different machines daily (I move around a lot), all of which run different OSes and browsers, and I don't have your problem.

Then again, none of those browsers are Safari. But who uses Safari anyway? ;)

I'm not a Mac guy, nor do I play one on TV...

That said, though there is a noticeable lack of horizontal post space compared to our last home, I think the overall vibe makes up for it.

Anyway, I've never had any overlapping problems, but since I'm on a WinBlows machine, that probably doesn't help you a whole hell of a lot.

I gotta ask though... 1024 x 640? Since standard aspect ratio monitors would associate 1024 width with 768 height, I'm guessing that's a widescreen res. That being the case, have you tried upping your resolution a bit? Seems to me that if you've got some kind of swanky widescreen monitor, it's probably of a decent enough size to handle a slightly higher res, which might help in this situation.

But what the hell do I know? I'm just a musician.

Cheers,

Dave

This whole thing was put up very quickly and is now a work in progress. We appreciate any and all information about browing issues, bugs, and suggestions on look improvements. Some decisions have been made based on future additions.

Let's keep this thread as our suggestions and complaints thread. There's another thread like this, and I'll try to merge them.

Thanks all!

First time merging threads. Never had that function available.

Apologies to binaural, in merging into your thread, the Suggsetions Thread posts are first. If this is upsetting to you, I can split them up again. Just let me know.

For some reason, i still prefer it over Firefox.
Not that i've really used Firefox 2 much yet.
Maybe i'm resistant to change.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say i like the width of the forum.
Gives me the impression of 'conciseness'.
But then again my OCD doesn't like sentences going across the
whole screen so....

I view these forums on OSX 10.4.8, Safari 2.0.4, res 1440 x 900.
No issues here. :)

I do indeed. It's what Firefox SHOULD be on OSX.

Although, no extensions, no bells, no whistles.

I dont really care for any of the bels and whistles ( themes etc) that FF has altho I do enjoy the spell check function.. But even that I can do without....

Can you tweak it speedwise very easily??

On Safari here - no probs. I get the thoughts on not allowing edits. It's nifty when the shit hits the fan. Noone can deny what they posted. But I still would like to be able to do it. Call me a whiner.

Now can someone edit in the simpler procedure of resetting NVRAM in the Keeping the Mac sane thread. Because obviously I can't. And I'm a sucker for simplification.

Mixerman
November 14th, 2006, 12:50 AM
Ah yes. The edit function.

Well, the good news is you CAN edit your post after you complete it. AND for a short time period you can edit it invisibly, so if you misspell a word, your post won't be scarred by a superfluous "edited by" message.

The other good new is, a poster can't decided a day later that they should not have posted something, and take it down from the record. This happens occasionally, and leaves a thread completely destroyed and non-sensical. We wish to prevent that scenario from occuring.

Thanks,

Mixerman

ok, I've tried messing around with every available resolution settings. Nothing is making the overlapping situation go away. The big vertical banner on the right is still covering the last parts of the 'forum'. I can see up to 'Quick Links', then there is another word that begins with 'L', and I have no idea what is behind that banner.

Some peoples' replies are 2/3rd the available space, some are beyond the end of the screen. All changing the resolution does is change the relative size, but the overlaps and run offs are still there.

Is Safari really that unpopular? It has been amazingly stable for me. I've had only one or two totally inexplicable crashes in the past couple of years, vs several times daily for IE or any other winblows browsers.

Certain forums I can't even browse on Safari.. I get lots of hard disk activity noise a semi freeze and the app quits..

So much so..I Did a quick websearch and dl'd Firefox

Apon Brendos suggestion i might give camino a go.. But SAFARI made no friend in me...

Works for windoze too i believe.

I'm on Safari too and with no problemas. Same version btw. However, if I increase the font size in Safari from the menu (cmd+), then the white space (the actual thread) goes underneath the banners on the right. Have a look at the attachements. Is that the problem you are having?

Looking forward to hanging around here, btw. That "In Rotation Station" idea is a great one!

if this matters, i'm not having any safari problems with the site. so i think tweaks about features are always welcome, but there is no inherent problem in safari that is browser specific.

Test4Echo - that is exactly what it is. Gee, sometimes I forget that I have my fonts freaking huge because I'm so nearsighted. Sorry, Mixerman, it was my bad.

I still don't know why there is no horizontal scrolling, though. Only vertical.
