this is a song I've been trying to decide what to do with for a long time. Started mixing well over a year ago. I leave it for a month or two, come back to it and say, "I like it".
Start to hate it again.
Come back a couple months later.

I GIVE! (i think)

I've decided to put it on a subvocal cd of old tunes.

Does this shit hold anyone?
Is it too out there?
Too unrecognizable as music?

any help on what I might do with this (fixes/changes etc) would be appreciated.

Its 8 fucking minutes so if you only get through 1 minute, I'll understand. (it's rare I can understand anything these days)

It's a cool piece. I think it needs to be way shorter.

You could cut about 2-3 minutes out and it'd be a stronger song. If you cut everything from the start of the first verse to the start of the second verse, that'd help. It has a strong ending, but making it through the first five minutes is a bit tedious. Same thing for the last verse, after the breakdown. It's just a little too much. Cut what you can while still maintaining your original "vision" of the song, and it'll only help.

Also, if I were mixing it, I'd send all the drums to a stereo aux and crush the fuck out of 'em with a comp or limiter. I might also reinforce them with electronic drum samples, too. I can easily imagine at least an electronic kick sound in this song.

That's just my $.02. Take it with a grain of assault. Heheh.

I dunno, if it's surrounded by material of the same ilk it's fine, if not then I agree that some major surgery is required.

I don't think it will be at all difficult to hack 2-3 minutes out of it

Thanks for the feedback conejito and dnafe.
I will think about trimming it up as a starting point.
