Because it costs a bundle to FedEx those vintage Ferraris all over creation.

Still, a bit of a rush.

you obviously haven't heard of 3D Modeling in Maya or 3D Studio Max.

Looks like Rome to me...they just rid the bystanders from the clips. I imagine the shots from Monaco were not hard to stage as those streets are right off of the GP course...Sao Paulo hosts a GP too right?

Finding Ferraris to use in the world's richest Cities like NY and Tokyo is not real tricky...the unbelievable parts are only the empty streets!

Speaking of expensive commercials, this one from a few years back has always been a favourite of mine.

Honda (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjVHUv8Jhww)

Here's the text:

This is a commercial for Honda Accord from a few years back. It has two Accords in it (the another is in parts) and the whole section was filmed with one long take. It took more than 2 weeks to get every little thing right..
It is also one of the most expensive commercials since by then there was only 6 ready Honda Accords so they were a lot more expensive than what they usually cost. (I don't know if they ever got the another car back togerther - I doubt though).

The whole commercial got its idea from a true modern art piece.

the Ferrari spot is one of the best sounding ads ever!

I haven't seen the Honda ad in a while. That is truly amazing.

Motion control.
Matte masks.
Blue sky acting as a blue screen.
Lots of trickery involved.

But a beautiful end result.
:Coolio:

Here's a bit more info on that Honda ad. It was all real, no computer animation, but was done in two sections:

And here's a video of the making of it: http://www.webcastgroup.com/client/start.asp?wid=0670811062646

Pretty nutty!

As much as I appreciate the car, the landscape, and the concept of the ad, Shell Oil can go fuck themselves for flaunting their record profits in this manner.

Enjoy,

Mixerman

Mixerman, if you really want to get your mad on, check out ExxonMobil's track record ever since the Valdez spill... they're even worse than Royal Dutch Shell.

If this is the turning into a political rant thread, I'll play. In the last quarter of 2006, Standard Oil, um, sorry, Exxon/Mobile, made $10 billion profit. Billion with a B. Profit, not earnings. And three months, not the whole year.

Not just in places like that man. When they had the first GP here back in what '98 or so they Malaysian Ferrari owners club had a rally to celebrate. Two Hundred and Fifty of the bloody things were parked around Bukit Bintang while they shut the streets off and let the Ferrari team show off last year's car and also held some kart racing. So many of them that it looked like they were being used as taxis :) I was trying out a guitar in a music store ascross the road, looked up and saw Michael Schumacher having "lunch"[1] with the PM at a sidewalk Cafe. Bizzare.

1) Spelled "Photo opportunity".
