Hello ! Guess who ?
I'm kidding. I promise to do it honestly.
Who's been listening to too much Police (which in my book is a great thing) ?
Very cool poppy tune. Catchy chorus. I'd want the lead vox to be a little more confident (is it me or is it a tad pitchy a times ?)
Less an issue when it's doubled, and I like the moods. I wouldn't call it original, but then, I'm a Police fan so I dig it.
What did you do on it ?
Gonna clean up the top and end ( ) for a touch too much hiss with chorus on top before I put it on my Izunepod.
 :Coolio:

ah, yeah, i know. hey, we're all good doods here. i mean no harm.
i did all except drums and agree that the vocals sound not quite right. a bit pitchy and the vibe is weird, but i wonder if it is help or hindrance with the words bing sung. probably the latter.
i fix.
the high end i am having some trouble with and it all stems back to the drum recording. had a bitch of a time, used a pair of 414 xls's on overheads and just can't seem to find a good sense of sparkle. i'd like to blame the kit, but i think it's just me and my shit recording. that and i am still getting used to a new pair of monitors.
excuses, i'm full of 'em.
more?

Wanting just a scosche more top end sparkle was my only beef with it.
Although it did seem like the vocal had enough crispy top to it.

i guess i gotta figure out when to add the sparkle: on the 2 bus or on the overheads or what. i get to a point where i trust my ears much less and then start staring at fft meters and shit and second guessing. i could maybe leave it to a mastering house so i have someone to blame or get it right in the first place.
hmmmmm.

Hey, not too bad...I like the Police feel to it....a good demo to figure out what youre doing wrong and do it right......I should rip you a new ass just for spite...but I can't...I like the song too much....

the song is good. like others have said re: The Police, but I'm a big fan too so no worries.
About the high-end stuff, I've gone through the same battle before. I eventually just stopped hyping top end all together, and I think my mixes sound more natural for it. There are times when I actually want to LP the overheads.. haven't been brave enough to actually let that decision stick though.

...and then they made sweet love under the stars, did st robert and jerryskid, tenderly groping and trading whispered insults (http://womb.mixerman.net/showthread.php?t=235) about each other's songs until they fell blissfully asleep.
i came out guns blazing, too dry. apologies. thanks for da comments.

Watch it! "Pitchy" is one of my nemesis words!
To me, a vocal works, or it don't. This one does IMO.

Gotta tell ya Robert its always a pleasure to hear your stuff.
My only beef is, unlike a tune you submitted earlier that hinted at Peter Gabriel's writing style this one was a little too close to the Police for my liking.
Other than that, I have no real complaints.

thanks, mr. don...
i think it's just those first 8 bars that lean toward "message in a bottle" and people are swayed. i don't hear much police beyond that meself. then again, i'm a bit close to it to make valid judgements.

Interesting mix. Feels like a vinyl mix in it's punchiness, which is not easy to pull off digitally. I like the song.
To me you shouldn't double the verse guitars. It'll make the chorus mean so much more then. Also, you might consider playing a lower part on the right guitar during the first chorus (waiting up for Nadia).
In general, I feel like guitars that are doubled the whole way down really weaken a production. If you double all the time, the double is cheap. If you double in only certain sections, the double is worth something.
And don't be afraid to have on e guitar playing on one side. Symmetry is not a requirement in stereo. Alternating between asymmetry and symmetry in a mix works as both contrast and dynamic in a mix.

For it to be compared to the Police, it has to be damn tight, which this one is.
The end of the song is where I'm digging it, but the main enjoyment is hearing the mix sound fat, and coming from the same place...mine float around in space, so mojo cudos on that feature.

I'm a big Police fan also, but if I hear something at this forum that sounds any more derivative than that, I'm sending out an SOS.
