I know...I don't even know how to record a vocal and guitar but you gave me so much help.
Some thing makes me feel like I'm being sucked in to the center (again just on my lappy speakers).
Maybe some stereo widening.
You could have a little more drums...a tad perhaps. Up the effect vocals so they really cut through as.
Can someone else tell me if I'm talking bs? Wouyldnt be a first:very happy:

Senior Scratchy,

Seems like an overall EQ problem... Like you've eq'd everything with too much high-end. When I take the mids up, and REALLY bump up the low end on my monitor system - the whole thing gets some balls and sounds pretty good, actually.

Good balance between instruments, though. So I don't think it's your mix - it's your monitors.

 thanks lebouche,Diks
I`m mixing in a alcove at the moment, still on with the
ground work that will become my studio??.. takes forever though..
so I thought there would be major issues with this mix
Diks!! Im using Genelec 1029`s do you think these may add to the low\mid probs in the mix?? I know the space im mixing in is insane, but eh!!...i have to make do for now,and this trak
wont be finalized in this environment

I checked out the EQ`s after reading your comments
I`ve rolled off the lows to the bass and kit at 45Hz
and a small roll off on the main picking guitar
but other than that no eq to speak of on anything else

I left the vocal unprocessed other than a smidge
of delay just to moisten it up a bit, thought I might ask
you guys some advice in this area?

the kit as been my main concern,I cant seem to get it to punch through without it treading all over the mix

oh!! one other thing that may be relevant
this is one of those songs that's been in the locker for a long time, and I just can`t seem to finish the fucker
i get the feeling I may of left the oven on to long??...:Roll eyes:

Scratchy,

I agree with Dik vis a vis the bottom end.

I thought the whole track was veiled...or somehow held back, or too polite.

The balances are nice, but I feel overall that it's a very safe mix...and quite mono. You certainly haven't gone to town flinging stuff about the stereo field...and you certainly haven't done much in the way of building excitement within the mix.

Maybe you've over-thought this?

Cheers,
Tim

OK I`ve taken off the Hi pass on the Bass & kit Diks
tried to beef up the overall mix,is this any better?

not a lot i can do with the guitar sounds ie,stereo wise
these are old traks and recorded in mono

kicked the Vox up a db or two, still nothing on the vox
except delay...any advice for vocal treatment chaps??

Tim any advice you have as to making the mix
more dynamic ...lay it on me mate...

again thanks Lads Mucho appreciate...:Coolio:

I'd have the bass a LOT louder in the mix. The slightly reggae feel is screaming for it, and it would help the rythm breathe and pump more. If turning it up a lot starts to obscure the other instruments, then EQ it so it's more of a sub thing that doesn't encroach on the other instruments. The hi-hats seem excessively bright, too. Either bring 'em down or eq some of the bite out of them.

And the volume change from the intro thing to when the full band kicks in should be drastic, but it's not.

There may be other stuff, but that's my quick take.

Cheers diks mate
would seem that my mixing position realy sucks balls ..
cant hear the high end on the hats ya on about
is it realy that bad??
I tried a tape sim plug to beef up the drums maybe too much
High end fizz added??...will sort it

know what ya mean about the Bass, but like Tim said,i sorta played safe with that, and the rest of the mix
I tried to get a latin meets reggae thing going on
so the sub Bass thing might be an option
thanks for the input Bud it`s a great help...
