at one of the best sounding theatres you could hope to be in. just a teeny little historic theatre, but gad zooks it sure sounds purty.

the act is really really good, and super nice too. i wish i was doing these all the time. i don't normally love being on monitors, but this one isn't too bad.

here is a pic or two from my phone, which of course doesn't do it justice.

it's eileen iverson and immigrant soul with our columbus pro musica chamber orchestra. fabulous.

Thanks for putting those up, Pounce...

Isn't it nice when you have a call that has you working with good people, talented people, nice people AND good music?

It definitely fills the cup so to speak.

Good job :)

Are you running mostly pre?

yes. pretty much all pre fader is working out great.

the conductor was very picky, but once a mix and level had been set for him (the band mostly with a little orchestra to support it, especially piano and harp) they wanted to have control of the dynamics. the band (the headliner) was even easier to deal with, and was super nice. both the band and orchestra were super tight and on top of thier respective volumes. the travelling FOH guy with the band must have a pleasant job, because now it's really all about sound reinforcement. the band is well balanced and well behaved.

it's not a proper monitor desk per se. its a pm3500, which used to be at FOH in this venue. they just kept it and used it as a monitor desk. i'm doing a modest 7 monitor mixes today, so it's not impossible to manage.

Paul,

Dude... 7 mixes?!? AND good music?

I hate you...

I usually get a dozen mixes... (9 too many) and whiny shit from prima's, wannabe's and hasbeens...

Good score on the gig dude!!!

Enjoy, mate!... ENJOY!!!

(I'm jealous!)

i only do monitors a few times a year, so i always feel a little "rusty" compared to FOH. but yeah, it was a really good gig to be on for monitors. all thanks you's and such, plus music i'd be happy to listen to more often. i'm jealous of the FOH guy who tours with them - that is a gig i would have taken. i've turned down a few other touring gigs, but this would be a sweet one.

that theatre, which sounds so good, also does get more of the real musicians of many genres than the others around town. i am frequently blown away by the sheer talent of the folks who go through there (your alison krause, aimee mann, keb mo, etc.) and this was no exception. if i got to work there more often i'd have even better mixing and micing chops.
