These are always good for a laugh:

I'm in a rush so I can't put any quotes in here, I'll leave it to others to find some gems.

Unfortunately there are no samples of his work.

not a funny, but actually, a very serious point

from the list of tips to pay attention to in order to be fully prepared for a session

3) Clean your cymbals to get a clean, bright sound

never ever EVER EVER EVER clean your cymbals you fucking prick. some people (some, slightly over-obsessive people perhaps) go to great lengths to achieve the exact opposite. i know a guy who buried his ride for 6 months, to achieve the equivalent to many years worth of aging (not quite the same, but many people do swear buy it). when browing for second hand cymbals, you will often see ones listed as "GENUINELY NEVER BEEN CLEANED" because its the aging and gradual mellowing of a cymbal that gives it its quality and its tone, and this is something that comes with many years of use, abuse, grime, and not cleaning. brand new cymbals are indeed 'clean' and 'bright' sounding, and that's the actual problem right there. really good sounding cymbals shouldn't actually be ear piercing.

HIGH DEFINITION ECCEL TDM

If you can't spell the center piece of your room correctly at the top of page one, I'm not gonna make it to page two.

I can't seem to find the Engineers name that is actually giving the audio engineering classes. You would think there would be a bio somewhere.

No pictures of the studio's is a worry.

Man, this guy does it all, mixing, mastering, teaching, vinyl restoration.....

Is this website finished????

We try to make your music true to the source

Well thank god for that...at least they try!! Hang on, wasn't their music the source? I'm lost..

Here we give best of both worlds - analog and digital. Our sound is right in between.

Wadda we got "Digilog"

Once it's in the digital realm, it stays there until it's put into your CD player at home.

When it magically becomes analog again.

Our signal path is very short and we use very high quality cables. The longest distance from a mic to a mic pre is only 25ft. From there it only travels another 3 ft. through Mogami AES cable to PRO TOOLS HD.

Wow that is short....glad we got that cleared up.

The tracking session is to get all the music to tape. That may include recording drums, guitar and bass, vocals and any overdubs.
They can be done over a period of time.
Sometimes the tracking sessions go on for months before any mixing is done.

And at $45.00 per hour I am sure it can..........months and months and months......

This is too good......

So much fodder, so little time.....

If you combine digital and analog, you get digilog.
If you combine analog and digital, you get anal.

I'm guessing they don't get digilog! :icon_eek:

Let's see. Then their sound would be "and", then.

I'm confused.

Oh yeah. They've been around 10 years, and worked with THOUSANDS of artists? Sounds like a lot of really short projects.

located between Baltimore and Washington D.C.

WHERE!!!!

pay-as-you-go basis

Payment is due at the end of each session

This studio sounds like it might be mobile.....say in the back of a truck or on a bus?

Cancellations without 24 hour notice well require a deposit before next session, and a no show fee of half of the booked time.

Which will be collected when you book your next ticket...errr session, which of course, your'e not going to.

Ahhh I could go on but I think he's had enough beatings for one day.....

I dunno about their audio chops, (chips), but MAN--that graphic work is TOP SHELF!

Maybe I could convince them to do some designing for my CD cover?!?!

I knew this would be fun, but I must admit I am a bit conflicted.

Here is someone who is at least sticking his neck out and having a go at it, and I have offered him up for a public flogging. As for me, after a few years in the audio world, I opted for a more stable day job at a big corporation. Now I only dabble in recording, a hobbyist if you will. This leaves me to wonder "what if" frequently.

So, who the hell am I? At least he is trying.

- OTOH -

If you ARE going to stick your neck out there, you had better do it better than this schmuck. This is one of the worst websites I have ever seen…….anywhere. The graphics……the writing……..UGH! I am amazed that he put this out there, doesn't he realize how awful it is. Doesn't he have someone who could have proofed this for him? Didn't THEY notice?? And if not, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??

And then there is the content, what is he selling here?? It certainly isn't his abilities, he hasn't mentioned them. Client testimonials? Experience? What can HE do for his clients? The whole site reads like re-worded copy from any number of manufactures advertisements and Sweetwater catalogs.

I wonder if the site has resulted in any business.

If he can't tell the site sucks, imagine how good his recordings sound.

I think the most important factor in this business is being able to compare one's own work against the competition and accurately gauge where your work falls and what needs to be done to get it where you ultimately want it.

I have a feeling this guy has hard time doing this, and though a poor website should have nothing to do with the work he does, if he is putting this out for public consumption, aye aye aye...

so.... if you were going to make a killer website for your studio, how would it look?

Tim Armstrong

He's located in Odenten, Maryland, about ten miles from Bowie, where I grew up (about 130 miles from me now). Odenton's claim to fame was that they had TWO bowling alleys back in the day. Once Bowie got a Fairlanes Bowling Center, we were done with Odenton...

I have a dear friend whose best friend's husband has a "studio" kinda like that one. Spent a lot of money on gear and soundproofing, and, well, he's purely lousy at recording and mixing. Really poor. Bad musician, too. He keeps trying to get me to drive up and do some recording with him, but truth be told I'd rather gnaw my own arm off first...

yeah, it's a shitty website. it's clearly put together by someone who isn't a strong verbal communicator. i'm not given to throw stones at it, though. maybe some contructive criticism of the website. i've seen much worse, and seen some studios so poorly underequipped that the money they charge seems a little wacked out.

since it's a hd system with decent apogee converters and some genelec monitors i know -i- could go in there and get something done. how good this guy is i don't know, there were no mp3's when i went there. so i'd just tell the guy to get a friend who can write copy so he can get the website into shape. with that gear, some guy running a small operation at 45 bucks an hour, well, i ain't inclined to bust his chops. i'll just hope he gets his act together so that his website improves and hope that he has a clue about audio.

I'm sorry, but I didn't really think Genelecs had a flat frequency response. Maybe if i looked at the specs rather than listen to them i might think that.

oh well. fun stuff fellas & fellettes. (don't wanna discriminate.)
