Hey all,

I know there are a few Europeans here, and I was wondering if any of you have come across any good books on the European side of the music industry, especially ones written in German. Real music industry basics, labels, promotion, licensing, performing rights organizations etc...

Thanks!

Go to the German branch of Amazon (www.amazon.de) and
search (under books) for 'Tonstudio' for the technical side,
and for 'Musikrecht' for the legal part of the industry.

Don't know if this is still interesting to the OP, but maybe it will be for others.

Offers a really worthwhile read of insights from the founder of Motor Music and CEO of Universal Music Germany (2001 - 2004) (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Renner). It might be already be a bit dated in some parts, but it gives a timeless description of how the business changed from enabling artists to quarterly reports.

Renner is offering a quite reflective column over at carta.info (http://carta.info/autor/tim_renner/).

And the hardcover comes with one of the most wicked bookmarks I ever encountered.

Edit: Another person to follow up for an academic view on things is Prof. Dr. Peter Wicke (http://www2.hu-berlin.de/fpm/staff/~wicke_e.html) who was actively involved in the research behind the awesome documentary Pop 2000.
