Lets say that your'e going to record a singer/songwriter and use programmed drums (DFH in this case). Everything else is the real deal. Real Hammond, piano, bass and guitars.

How often do you make changes in the tempo throughout the song when programming/arranging the drums.

For instance like this:

INTRO: 120 BPM
VERSE 1: 119 BPM
BRIDGE 1: 120 BPM
CHORUS 1: 121 BPM
VERSE 2: 120 BPM
BRIDGE 2: 121 BPM
CHORUS 2: 122 BPM
SOLO/STICK: 122 BPM
CHORUS/OUTRO: 123 BPM

Do you guys do this all the time or do you just keep the same tempo through the whole song?

This question could be valid for those oocations when you're recording real drums with clicktracks too.

Discuss.

Good topic

Afaic, he answer is : not all he time.

I really depends if I feel like it would help.

I always fine tune this sorta things during he takes, and not before. It really depend on the mood of the band.

that said, generaly, if you need such tempo changes, it is often because the drummer does not need click track.

I mean, when he start feeling he could push on the chorus a bit more and back it up on the verses, it is generally because he has a good natural sense of tempo.
