Mornin gang.

I'm using PT 001 6.4
since it's discontinued (001) I've been keeping
my OS(X) at 10.3.8 (If it ain't broke type dealio)

but now the i-Tunes store won't let me buy tunes unless I upgrade to i-Tunes 7. I'm currently running i-Tunes 4.

I seem to remember some horror stories of systems not working after certain quicktime and i-Tunes upgrades.

So my question is. Can/Should I do this upgrade.

001/6.4/10.3.9/QT 6.5.2/iTunes 4.7.1 here.

QuickTime 7 seems to be the deal-breaker with 10.3.9, and LE6.4. I haven't had time to screw with newer versions, but I haven't heard of any success stories.

If you have a current backup, and the time to restore from same you could beta-test for the rest of us. :D

Yeah, don't go QT7.

Does itunes 7 run with qt6.x? I know itunes 6 does... can you get that instead, i.e. does that let you purchase from the store?

Digi never approved 10.3.9 so don't go that route.

I upgraded to i-tunes 7 a while ago, and it screwed up everything. Nothing would play without weird noise and crackling. I heard this was mainly a PC problem though.

You may lose the ability of i-tunes to play through the 001 and ProTools loses the ability to import CDs and work with QuickTime movies.

My new M-Powered PT7 setup runs rings around my old PT6 version on the same computer so it might be well worth downgrading like I did.

downgrading?

downgrading?I look at digidesign like you pay the TDM initiation fee.

Then you realize their converters don't hack it.

Then you find out le sounds as good or better than TDM provided you use good converters and don't need to record too many tracks at once.

Finally you realize that the M-Powered hardware is probably going to be supported for a lot longer time than the LE box of the month is.

Hence it's a matter of downgrading. At this point I have $15,000 worth of plug-ins running on a $250 version of ProTools.

I made the mistake a few weeks ago to install Itunes 7 upgrade on my pc. Holy Hell what a freakin nightmare ! First I got the ole install shield version error. I've seen that one before but the kind folks at Apple failed to name the .exe with the install shield version. So off we go installing versions starting with the most recent. After a few hours of playing install and uninstall I finally got itunes installed. But now the audio is all whack. I searched for a solution for a few days ( no luck )and finally went back to the old version which works fine. I wish Apple would beta test new versions of itunes on a few machines before they release it to the public.

If your on a desktop, consider installing another harddrive and making your computer dual boot. I needed 10.28 for some legacy graphics applications but 10.4x for Logic 7. It's worked out pretty good.
