Yeah, he had some very good movies...my favorite of which was The Player. Few satires have ever been so cutting.
He had a good life and good career.

Even his last movie, "A Prarie Home Companion", was brilliant.

Oh no...
:(
Godspeed, Mr. Altman. One of my favourite directors.
Very sad.

I just saw Prarie Home Companion a few days ago and thought it was great. Short Cuts and the The Player are among my favorite films.
A sad passing but at least he left a high water mark in cinema that will give future film makers an idea what "original voice" really means.

Altman used a 1" 8 track on the set for his audio. Most today are only beginning to record multitrack production sound. He was way way ahead of his time.

Altman was awesome, and "Shortcuts" had a tremendous impact on me (the first Altman film I saw).

He was one of the greatest. Loved most of his work and just watched "A Praerie Home Companion" again on the day his death was reported. A very appropriate final movie for his life achievement I think, great great film. Between MASH, Shortcuts and this, his output has been extremely diverse. My respects to Mr. Altman, here's to hoping he makes movies elsewhere now.

He had dialogue happening all over the place. For example, in "Godsford Park" in the scenes where everyone is gathered in the parlor, you can hear several conversations happening all at once. Just like you were in the room yourself, overhearing multiple conversations. Tres cool.
He'll be missed.
