Hey all,

When does the next CAPE start? I'm very interested in giving it a crack the signup rolls around.

I'm at a crossroads with my songwriting. Due to the lack of talent in my area, (i say that carefully, there maybe talented songwriters around, but i dont know them) so I've been doing all the tracks myself.
My main trouble is arranging chorus/verse sections together, while keeping everything interesting with nice transitions/little rythmic bits etc. I'd really like to see what i can produce with a little extra help.

Do all the members have to be physically in the same area, or is the whole point internet collaboration?

I can play guitar, keyboard/piano and drums (well i say drums, i play using samples on a midi keyboard. I have touched a real kit for awhile. Its the same basic principle, just your hands/fingers are in a different spot  )

you'll get a month advance notice usually, and same area is not a consideration really

Hey there !
We are in the process of deciding when Cape6 will start.
And don't worry, there will be plenty of annoucements.

But if you've got tunes ready to go, why don't you just start another collaboration right here ?
Just call out for the talent you need, pick from the replys you get and do it like you would on Cape ! You might be suprised how well this works out.
Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions.

And hell yeah!

Just post something of a demo so folks can get a grip on what your flow is like, you'll get some eager players.

Online collabs are fun because 1) you get to meet new people and 2) personal hygiene isn't a factor, ever.

Tell us more, Bob. Maybe post a sample mp3 like bbkong said. I know I'm not the only one going through CAPE withdrawal right now...

Allright then, you wanna see what I've got?

Heres a simple little groove i came up with. Nothing spectacular, not really sure whether its worth pursuing, or i'm just too fucking fussy.

I'm also working on a cool little swing number at the moment as well, although i'm keeping that one to myself until i get stuck. :D

140 bpm, 1 bar lead-in
.wav files and dry guitar available on request. So, yes i'm a clownfucker...

It's nice that you see humor in that post.

The fact of the matter is that it's completely true.

Had Cheech spent any time in close proximity to me after grabbing some breakfast tacos at the Tamale House on Airport Boulevard, which no longer goes anywhere near the airport, I am sure that he would have abandoned me as a team member.

There is only so much flatulance that one can stand.

Bob,

The songs sound great...just enough to still let them have their head, so to speak...big-time bass players...where are ya, and meanwhile, we'll see about some vocs....mmmmmmmmmmmgood!

I like it! I'm not "big time" (quoting Carlo) but I am a bass player and I'd love to take a crack at this one.

I'm playing the next 2 nights, so it will be the weekend before I get time to work on it.

Well, Bob, you should fit right in around here. I like the groove. Not sure I can help, being an acoustic guitarist and all, but I can guarantee that there are those hereabouts who can. Help, that is.

Cape VI can't be too far off (if'n we ever get Cape V finished!), so hang in here.

Likewise, if you would have been in the same room with me tracking after having some ice cream (i think i am lactose intolerant) you would have definitely thought my tracks stunk.

I know how you feel...
Each groove is cool on its own, like a 30 second sample of the song sounds cool as well. It just doesnt go anywhere. Thats the bit i'm having difficulty with.

You kiddin' right???

There 1000 different ways you can this one without breaking a sweat!

Wish I wrote it though, would make a good OceanWerks track...

Seagate's right, you know. I actually did about a dozen takes of the organ track (I know...it's still a bit sloppy. So shoot me...), and I found that I could have played a LOT of different things. I tried a few takes where I was mostly in A, a few takes where I was pedaling, a few takes where I did a solo over the last 8 bars...it could go pretty much anywhere. It's a great groove. If you make it a full piece and throw it up for collab, I'd be happy to lay keys throughout, and I'm sure a few of the others here would be more than happy to do bass and vox.

So there's your homework!

Well, as for bass parts, Qwezi got it done before I got started! It's a good part QR. No need for another.

On the contrary, Jeff_C. By all means, throw yours out there! I've been waiting to hear what you have to put on it. I'd love to hear what a totally different idea would do to the feel.

Here's what I came up with. It's different all right. I was already working on a fretless part for another song, so I opted to use my "manually operated pitch approximator" on this as well.

2500

I have been trying some different strings on my fretless 4 - I usually use the Thomastik flatwounds, but this was recorded with Dean Markley Fretmasters. They're groundwound over the fretboard and roundwound over the pickups. I like them, but they can't do the upright bass imitation like the Thomastiks. I'm gonna leave them on there till they're dead, though, because it took so long to get the bass setup right after changing from the flats.

I tuned everything down a whole step to make that droning low D work. The side effect of that was that the strings got a little floppy and the action got a little strange. The attacks became very "clicky."

I liked the clickiness so I pushed that further and tried a slap part during the instrumental section at the end. Yes, you can slap a fretless bass! A bit of izotope trash distortion on the slap section and there you have it.

Anyway, execution isn't perfect and the mix is bad, but it's a start. I'd love to hear comments & further ideas.

Here's some mo ideas Qwezi. I loved the tone you got, but I had a different (slightly boring) interpretation in my head, so I plopped it out. Didn't tune down, so after I quit diving for the low E, I just smacked record. Not a track, just an idear. :Coolio:

I'll check Jeff's out this evening.

Now where's them woids?
