As some of you may know, I'm still pretty green (to quote The Jam) when it comes to mixing. That's how I found this site; to learn.
I've been asking for local bands to give me some of their songs for me to practice on. The response was terrible! Sure, loads of people said they'd sort something out but no-one followed the initial promise up. No-one that is except one band who I'm a bit more friendly with than the others.
"Great!" I said, "Stick it on a DVD or bring a hard-drive round. If I do a good job of it you can use the mix for free, if not then you've lost nothing." So they brought the hard-drive round and said, "This is our next single, it's out in August on iTunes and the deadline is July 9th."
:icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek:
So, I've been working on it solid for the past couple of days. There have been a couple of awkward disagreements (as always, I'm sure) and a rather dodgy bit of mastering on my part, although I'm half pleased that one of the noisiest bands in town have told me it's too loud :Coolio:
Anyway, here is the reason for my post; I really need some opinions on what I've done so far from someone unconnected with the band or me, but I can't put it online.
Is this something you experience often? I suppose this is aimed more at the people at a similar level to me, as you pros probably know other pros and can just call round with a CD. Would doing a mix with me saying, "Property of Repeater Records" over it be enough for me to give a choice few of you a link?
I'm glad I'm mixing their next single (even if I think I'm in a little above my head) but the official release of it has caused me an unexpected (if nice) problem.
