Damn Carlo...this one came from a particularly dark area of your soul, didn't it? What a dark and brooding song...I love it. I think Sleep Country USA could use it as their jingle..."The Bed Ain't The Same Without You"...

Seriously though, I love it all. The shakuhachi adds something surreal to this tune...wonderful work there Scodiddly. And Fletcher was clearly in the same thoughtspace as the tune required...the mix captures the mood perfectly.

Great performances all, too. Special props to Amopae on his keyboard work!

Fuck me silly... damn Carlo, did you get possessed by Layne Staley during the tracking sessions for the choruses or what?

And yes, props to Amopae for his keyboard parts, that kid's a genius I tell ya...

Wow. You hit it on the head, Zoesch. "Rooster" anyone?

Nice!

Whoa! Spooky- absolutely killer vox, especially in the harmonies, and what an arrangement! I particularly like the way it switches over to a one-drop reggae pulse- Anduin, that came off great :)

Carlos you suck.

Call me, k?

Very nice and soulful delivery from all of ya. Keys kill. Oh man how I love that sound.

What the hell is a SHAKUHACHI?

Drums THUMP!

Yes, this is a new fav of mine. Dreamy. How's come none of my reverb sounds like that?

Great mix.

(did they ever actually KILL the rooster? I think not)

Dude, don't you know, they'll kill the old red rooster when she comes?

They're still waiting for her to come

(a shakuhachi is a very awesome Japanese bamboo flute. one of the coolest instruments around. It can do mellow or give you a rasp like a saxophone, only airy and woody instead of brassy. I want one :) )

Totally.

Scodiddly should know by now that when I see a unique instrument like that in someone's sign-up thread, it's SURE to be a mandatory part of a team!

Love that sound, and Fletcher has it in the mix perfectly.

GOOD LORD.

CARLO!!!!

I fucking love this.

I am a SUCKER for all that 90s grunge and this could have been any of my favorite bands.

MOTHERFUCKER!!!! VOCALS!!! DEAR LORD.

Love the drums.

Mix is great. Nice fx on the drums.

This is my favorite. I haven't said that yet either.. and I am listening alphabetically.

Carlo you know I'm a huge fan of yours and I can honestly say this the best thing I've heard you do, it's absolutely perfect!
Guys you all kicked ass!

No Element is out of place. YOu guys all sound VERY major league and as has been said the MOOD! OMG! It's sounds a little like southern fried Pink Floyd. This track gave me a really strong visual hit, of a guy driving around a run down neighborhood were he used to live with his woman, she had made it beautiful for him but now it's just all washed out and everything is sepia.

Haunting!

Yeah right.

So, if I remember right, this was a "problem team" ?
Yeah right.

:Coolio:

It always seems that the "problem" teams wind up with some of the best CAPE tunes don't they? Team Downbeat in CAPE III, Team Progression in CAPE IV... Hmm. Maybe there's something to that. Perhaps Ded4now should pick the teams next time.

By the way, in case I didn't mention it in my praise earlier in this thread, well done on the mix Fletcher. You got a bit of flack last time for your unconventional mix of Team Tombstone, but if you needed redemption (which you didn't, really) you've certainly got it with this mix!

You guys got paid for this, right? Nice work all around.
I coulda used just a tad more of Carlo's wonderful pipes in the mix, but that's a minor gripe from a big fan.

Yeah, I knew that might get me into trouble. Took me most of the tracking period just to get back into practice so I wouldn't embarrass myself. I'm just glad that the team agreed to let me choose the key, otherwise I would have been screwed.

Anyway, the song turned out great and everybody turned in cool stuff. I didn't even hear some bits until Fletcher glued it all together.

<===had to look up SHAKUHACHI. hehehe Then be like I knew that...kinda. Very fitting. One of those tunes that keep turnin it up a notch and you think you can't move it forward anymore and then it smacks you in the face with some more highly polished rawness. The Vox and writing KILL. I love the progression and the singing is so freaking on with the mood it provides.

Thanky Mous, that's all we can ever hope for, that someone "sees" what we see, in a song. Thanks!

All props have to go to Master Trazan for this piece...he swallowed, whole, my scratch, and laid a golden egg! That man, I gotta work with somemore, please, Trazan, please!

Tom played THE killer guitars lines, that really gave this song legs to stand on...his tones and powerful presence pushed the song much higher than it was.

Don't get me started on the Shakuhachi...Fletch's incorporation of the flute throughout the piece was a real suprise, as was Sco's ability on the damn thing, along of course with his down-low bass, the way he brought the song down in the bridge, then lifted it back up, thrilled me!

Amopae. This hombre has got MAD SKILLS, I mean it, he is a maestro of the finest order, and we need to use the hell out of him while we mere mortals still have a chance!

All held together by my man Anduin, who not only laid down The Law (his magnificent drums), but all while blocking bottles thrown at him from the peanut gallery! My man Anduin!!

Ain't these cape "bands" just like the crazy muthas were are all a part of?

It was another great ride on the Womb...and we should all give thanks to the powers that be...

...that would be you E!:Coolio:

OK.

I'm gettin' pretty sick of all the monstrousness. Monstrosity. Monstrositude.

I thought our team would be MILES out front in the badass dept.

The more I listen, the more I realize that it's a fucking neighborhood fulla bad-asses (shut yo' mouth) well I'm just talkin' about CaPE (well, we can dig it).

Carlo - this is the strongest thing I've heard outta you yet. And that's no small task to top yourself. Everyone here:

Here are the lyrics...

I can see that you're afraid of me
but as far as I can tell
you know I want to live in Heaven
not reside in this hell

but I'm tired tired of being alone
what's required is for you to come home

cause the bed ain't the same without you
so tired of being alone
no the bed ain't the same without you
come back home

I learned too much about pain with you
things I did not want to know
I'm just talking 'bout forgiveness
of too many things that we both know

but I'm tired tired of being alone
what's required is for you to come home

cause the bed ain't the same without you
so tired and all alone
no the bed ain't the same without you
nothing goes on, nothing goes on
the bed ain't the same without you
come back home

I'll be up, you'll see my light on
your key still unlocks my door
Time seems like forever
and I'm afraid of how much more

but I'm tired tired of being alone
what's required is for you to come home

cause the bed ain't the same without you
so tired and all alone
no the bed ain't the same without you
nothing goes on, nothing goes on
the bed ain't the same without you
come back home

I guess it's about that woman...who left...and that you miss her.

I guess at least two or three people already beat me to the Alice In Chains comparison.

Very impressive. It tells a story, it has atmosphere, it kicks you in the teeth. I'm still spitting chiclets.

Everyone: bravo. Going back for another listen.

This has been such a great ride, thanks to all the guys in the team who took me under their "wing" and helped me to not freak out when I was about to do that...It's so cool and so easy to work with such a talented group of people that I'm already looking forward to CaPE VI.

i cannot even begin to describe where this song takes me...

i am at a loss for words in general...

dark, sexy...gritty...

so many layers...there is a under current to this song that is dangerous and ominous...battered, bleedin', wounded, and bound...but still dangerous...

guitars and keyboards are weapons...

anduin...wow...

and

between the carlo's vocals and the bridge...i fall to my knees...

Dude....

You totally killed on this.

Then dressed and skinned it, grilled it over a scorching mesquite fire and served it up still sizzling on the plate.

Everybody involved completely nailed this one.

In one word SOLID. I love the vox and Harmony. The mix is solid, the playing is solid..... Definitely brings me back to the 90s grunge (AIC) darkness, with a little something different mixed with it.
Great job fellas!

I just gave all the CAPE entries a first listen; this one was the one I was returning to after this.

This will be definitely one of my favourites from this CAPE. The overall mood, the "heavy" feel of it, the instrumentation, the vocal delivery...

Congrats, job well done!

Cheers for that! Dark and eerie was definitely the mood on this one.

Instead of "Team Omen" perhaps it should have been "Team Oh Man!"...or maybe "Team Amen", since you have to cross yourself twice to shake off the clinging demons of that Voice...

Yup, this is in my top three.

I automatically expect great vox from Carlo, but his songwriting on this comes as a pleasant surprise.

Pleasant in a dark way, if you get my meaning. Like I can feel the heartache.

I love the way the big chorus breaks down at the end and leaves you alone in a pickup truck on a dirt road.
