After a bit of discussion with a couple of key individuals around these parts in regards to the Critiques and Collaborations forum, it was finally decided that the most prudent course of action would be to separate the two. There are many reasons for this, but the three most prevalent ones are:

A) Collaboration requests were getting lost amidst the critique requests,
B) When CAPE comes around, things were bound to get even more muddled,

and

C) There is going to be more to this forum than meets the eye.

The first two are fairly self explanatory, of course, but I ought to elaborate on C. Obviously, CAPE is a big part of the collaborative and networking nature of our little community here. Back in the other place, the forum I moderated had a scope which was something of a melting pot, but only got its real use for the CAPE time of year. This forum, however, is going to have a much more active focus on creating and nurturing numerous ongoing collaborations outside that aforementioned scope. In other words, anything you put up here will be open for people to add to. This doesn't mean that people WILL add to it, and that's the nature of the beast; BUT, one of the earmarks of the Womb community is that we have this penchant for helping people out, as well as enjoying playing and recording music for the sake of...well...playing and recording music (a novel concept, I know).

What all of this means is that most of the moderators and featured contributors here are more than willing to lend their musical expertise in an active manner. There are some considerations that you should bear in mind, however.

First of all, remember that if someone decides to contribute something to a piece you have put up, he or she is doing it wholly at his/her time and expense. This means that you don't have to like it, or don't have to use it...but you should actively appreciate it for what it is.

Another thing I should point out is that if you feel a bit too self-conscious to post something here, but would still like to have people contribute that particular part or two that you need on your tune, please feel free to PM me...and I can try to play "matchmaker" for you, in a strictly musical sense, of course(!).

I will also, in the course of this forum's development, create some "exercises" that you can participate in, if you'd like. CAPE will still be the Big Thing here, but I plan on trying some new things, such as giving out some musical parameters, and having contests (with prizes, no less!) to who can come up with the best piece within those parameters, as judged by a panel of mods.

So there you have it...both an introduction, and some fodder for thought.

CAPE V signups will begin on January 1st this year, and will last for the full month. There are also some minor changes to the format that will be put in place. Oh, and we will have the mastering element back this time around...and done by a single mastering engineer. Hmm, I wonder who THAT could be...

As always, don't hesitate to email, Skype or PM me about anything you'd like.

Have fun!
