For August I am thinking summer and sun. Sun.

And because in Ireland August is Lunasa I am also thinking about the moon (Luna, get it?) Moon. (Not that the Irish word for August means moon, but fuck it, I'm in charge and get to make the connections).

And because I like tri-tones so much (and Mingus suggested it - blame him) I'm thinking about a chord progression that has tri-tone root motion in it (more on this later).

And as August is my birthday month I'm thinking about celebrations.

And because I'm feeling tricksy because it's my birthday (and because Mingus suggested something like this, too [and who the fuck does he think he is, anyway.... Mingus?]) I think the song needs to change meter between even and odd during the song. For a section or a bar or whatever. 4/4 to 3/4; 5/8 to 4/4; 7/8 to 6/8; whatever. I don't care.

----
The tritone bit means this.
Let's say you're playing a C chord (major or minor, doesn't matter), you have to then play an F# chord (major or minor, doesn't matter). The root of the chord has to have tri-tone motion. I don't care where in the song it happens, but it's gotta be there. [And no, you can't fulfill this part by dicking around with dimished chords - because a C dim and F# dim are inversions of the same thing, smartass. But you knew that.]

----
So for August we have:
A song about the sun, moon, and celebrations, that contains tri-tone root motion, and which changes meter from odd to even at least once.

Happy Birthday!
