View Full Version : Rejected Band Names

Droolbucket
September 7th, 2007, 02:25 AM
Over the years, as bands have formed, one of the first orders of business (right after deciding on a preferred brand of beer) is to choose a band name. In my experience, everyone writes down a handful of suggestions, the debate process begins, and one name is chosen.
For some reason, my submissions almost NEVER get chosen. Can't imagine why! So, here's some of my potential band names that I'll never get to use. Feel free to add to the list.

Harry and the Combovers.

The Windbreakers (we had a few flatulent members in this band.)

The Rick Tile Disfunctions (say it fast.)

The Short Bus Revue

The Mediocres

Drunk Naked Lesbians (we were all guys, and all straight, but it sure would have looked good on the marquee!)

Heinous Anus (again, flatulence problems.)

And my favorite, The Panty Hosers.

Anyone else?

I was in a band that had a guitarist who was a "rack nazi", and another guy who was a "combo junkie". They could never agree, so I suggested that we "meld" them:

the rambo nancies.

Back in the early 80's I was sitting around one evening helping some mates name their band. We started talking about bands of the day, and two that came up were Men At Work and Men Without Hats ...

...and Men Without Work was born.

Since two of them had recently become involuntarily unemployed, the name was especially appropriate.

There was a reggae band touring my part of the country called "Cess". The singer claimed it was short for "success". Jamaicans and islanders certainly have a unique grasp on the subtleties of English...

I wished him luck swimming in the successpool.

A band I was in wanted to call itself Monkey Chow.

Ralston Purina got wind of this and nixed that because they have a product by that name. We ended up calling ourselves, Bedside Manor.

Another band called ourselves Gemini. One night we were puzzled when folks kept asking which one was Jim?

It seems the club owner put on the marque; "Now Appearing - Jim and I".

Years later, a two man guitar group whose leader's name was Jim was looking for a name. I told him about Jim and I. Rejected.
