Enough for you to make an impression. If it's above 180 we'll make it 32 bars, OK ?

Song Length?

Depends on how many shredders we get signing up here !

Tempting, very tempting...

Sounds like fun, although I'm not sure my ego would be able to deal with everyone else playing circles around me. I've known to pick up the pace every now and again, but I'm not really a shredder. I'm liable to sprain something if I try to keep up.

Before I decide to participate in the SHREDBED edition, I have a question: Does participation in the Shredbed preclude participation in the main CAPE?

Correct me, if i am wrong, but I usually associate shredding with rather athletic EPO-digesting speed. Is this, what you have in mind here? Cause, while I like some music done in this fashion, this is not where my personal strenght is as a guitar player, and I would then gladly pass it to someone else. Also, how many shredders are you looking for?

gitarted
October 20th, 2007, 03:12 PM
I don't think speed is the main factor in shredismz,
I think taste and creative phrasing is much more effective as far as the "blow away factor" goes.

and of course, the ability to execute your parts cleanly, and smoothly is much more attractive than how fast you can run up and down scales with straight sixteenth notes.

however... it's good to have the horsepower when trying to pass...

I agree...

So many assume that shred is all about speed and nothing but speed. It's about giving a ride where you can accelerate from 0 to 320, go around sharp corners, up and over hills and come to a full stop, throw that sucker in reverse... A roller coaster ride rather than a drag race.

My confession is I've avoided signature things to avoid comparison which may cause discomfort...

I still am not sure, that I fully understand the concept. GOES211 what do YOU mean, when you say SHRED? Are you talking about metal? Because that is the genre, I associate with the word SHRED. And are you talking speed, or can it be one note each bar, if the "SHREDDER" finds that right? Are you in fact just searching for any kind of "soloers" with any kind of genre-preference and any kind of playing style?

I am sorry, but I would really like to know.

That is really soooooo subjective.
Eddie Van Halen shreds but he's hardly metal.
To me, anyway.

I guess what we're talking about is unabashed display of guitar pyrotechnics, which would usually be considered "too much" by the rest of us sub-humans ('cause we can't do it). If you can make one note scream, to me, you're shredding too.

Will that work for you ?

Hmmm, so even I can shred...

Jeez folks, the semantics are getting quite complicated !

Here's what I wrote to Immanuel earlier :

Shredding as we know it probably has to do with some kind of guitar gymnastics. Personally, it's not my thing. 'Cause I can't do it. (as in "I don't have the chops" )

But many folks seem to enjoy it. Let me be blunt : the point is to let people enjoy a bit of guitar solo-ing, extreme OR NOT. Fret-wankage, whatever you wanna call it. It's very trendy to look down upon guitar solos. Our thinking was : so what ? Let people have some fun ! "Guitar show-off", it's exactly that. Usually frowned upon, this time a requirement. :Coolio:

In other words : Yngwies are welcome, and so are Claptonites.

Does that make more sense ?

It's a lot of talking about definitions before actually playing a note. :Roll eyes:

Should be a laugh- and you get to try stuff separately from regular CaPE? Hell yeah. Besides, I almost never get a guitar solo anyway, so it can be like REVENGE OF THE TOO-LOUD GUITAR and for a change that's EXACTLY RIGHT

I can't decide whether I'm going to throw in very fast frilly crap, or try to Jeff Beck it and kill with three notes. Maybe some of both- no harm trying, if it's not right it just won't get used :) listen really really hard to Team Alchemy, my riffs were way too shreddy for the mix. Tone was untogether but that was years ago...

If that note is a harmonic, played with the volume knob at 0 floyd rosedown, and then you gradually raise the whammy bar and volume at the same time till you get the Dimebag Darrell growl, then yes, 1 note is shredding.

So the song will be what, about 2 hours long?

Don't warry about it. My intergalactic spy has told me, that they are just going to comb a lot of solos. After all, part of shredding is density, and what better way to create density? It has been done for years with doubled lead vocals and guitars and stuff. Even for centuries ... choir music  This will just be taking it a step further.

Also, the same spy told me, that they are planning to fiddle with the tempo of the recording. Quadrupleing the tempo will 1) save disc space 2) save time 3) ADD DENSITY!

I think we have us a hit
