Song for December

Parameters:
Music
This month, our kickoff here at The Womb, we’re celebrating the holiday season by going to the beach. Surf Music it is. Whatever you define as Surf Music is OK (Dick Dale, The Ventures, Jan & Dean, The Beach Boys, Surf Punks, Agent Orange, etc.).

To make it a little harder, if your song is in a major key, you have to have a bridge, or chorus, in a minor key – and it cannot be the relative minor of your major key (for the un-musically trained: if your song is in C, your modulation cannot be in A minor). Conversely, if your song is in a minor key, you have to have a bridge, or chorus, in a major key – and it cannot be the relative major of your minor key (for the un-musically trained: if your song is in G minor your modulation cannot be in B-flat major).

Lyrics
The great majority of surf songs touch on only a few topics: surf, sand, sun, cars, and girls. This is great, but we are going to Oppositeland. Our surf songs will be about death, dying, suicide, or a major felony.

So that’s it: a song that is recognizable as a surf song, a bridge in a non-related minor key (or major, depending on where you start), and lyrics that get all Goth.

Cool?

Songs are due by Dec 31 and will be posted through the month of January.

The onus is on you.

yeah.... we're in too. I've never really listened to surf music, except for the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction hahaha... and Jules has never written any lyrics that are remotely goth . So this is perfect for us...

already got a scratch down to screw with...

If anyone needs help with lyrics, just let me know.

My writing tends to gravitate towards the macabre side.

My dear friend, hearing such a statement from the lesser half of a husband and wife team is, well, quite frankly, just a little more than too much information...

Sure thing. Just pop me an .mp3 of the basic structure, and...

I'll pen you a tale of a watery catacomb
With tides awash in blood-flecked foam.

Ok, you threw me.

Foo I knew of, since Mavericks is near here, and his death was local news back in 94.

Hamilton was all over the news...

But even with Google, I can't put a major felony against Kelly Slater's name.
(Unless they've criminalized dating Pam Anderson.)

What'd I miss?

Did he steal your heart?

i knew my mistake minutes after postin' it - but by the time i wiggled back to this thread it was too late to update - damn!

sunny garcia - felony - tax evasion...

btw - mark foo was tragic. we were on the beach -

you're right though kelly stole my heart

nah, it was just all the kava (dirty sock water) in tavi that messed up my brain.

so...thanks for keepin' me humble...if anyone else wants some psuedo reliable content for lyrics - let me know....clearly

"information is NOT knowledge"!

If you could find a rhyme for "angst" and "shiraz" "Makita 4hp Router" and "condom", that would be nice...

Be careful what you wish for from these writer types...

I once challenged Goes in that way, and a CaPE song resulted. Glad I didn't bet money that he couldn't do it!

listened to Grapestompers song and dig it a lot.
i am a lil late for the december song but cant wait what will be on in january. meanwhile i have some noob questions.
would be cool if you can help me out a lil !

" writing a song " :

well i am glad i am able to read through the audio forums and of course the womb. still, english isnt my native language so theres a lot to learn for me in fact of ~ understanding.
making this one short, writing lyrics is pain in the ass for me.
is it a MUST to deliver the song idea with lyrics ?

i wait a lil till that question is answered to shoot the next one.

THANK YOU, the immigrant :)

Does a song have to have lyrics?

Yes; if that is part of the challenge (there might well be instrumental challenges in the future). However, there is no rule that it has to be in English. Also, you could use your skills in this language to your advantage by repeating phrases and words that suit the challenge. It doesn't have to be "proper". Be creative with what you've got.

And have fun.
