OK, here is the deal, up until now I've done all the mixing on this just for fun internot collaboration project. I think I've done a pretty good job on the tracks but I can't shake the feeling that these songs could be a shitload better and more consistent if they where mixed by a pro...

So, I'm now looking for a pro or semi-pro mixer with a bit of spare time to have a go at these and any future tracks. We have 5 tracks so far...

Just to clarify, we are not looking to make money out of OceanWerks (suffice to say, we wouldn't say no to wad of cash though), it's just a bit of fun. In other words, I/we can't pay you anything.

So there you have it, flame away...

I LIKE your mixes, why change?
I think you sell yourself short.

Maybe so, but there is no consistency across them, especially the last one...

Also, considering I write the tracks, produce them, play on them I think I'm way to close to do them justice in the mix.

And that's not even mentioning the lack of good gear, ears or room.

Thanks for the kudos though.

are they consistently RECORDED?

if so, why should the MIXES be inconsistent?

I'd say they are, as much as they can be...

if so, why should the MIXES be inconsistent?

My lack of experience!

well, can't you bring in the settings from one song to another to try to keep some more consistency?

Maybe one of the boys in the Logic forum can write some presets for me so my last mix matches the others...

Ask and ye shall receive.

Magic brought a disc of you guys over this afternoon and I pumped it out into the big room.

Got a few observations.

I'm not real comfy with the way the drums and bass sit in the mix. Dunno if that's the mixer's taste or a problem with the monitoring set up.

I do like the the way the vocals sit. Clear, up front and well defined. The Hammie patch is too....patchie. Doesn't sound like a real one. To the extent that it distracts my ear.

All the playing is good, but it falls a notch short of sounding like you're all in the same room. The subtle interplay is missing. Dunno if there's a cure for that except for repeatedly doing the tracks over and over until you're really sick of it.

I like the song constructions. They feel fresher than most stuff I hear in collabs.

The lyrical content is another matter. It's not often I hear a song that makes me want to slash my wrists before the last verse. Maybe you guys could cheer up a little bit?

Of course, if I thought it just outright sucked I wouldn't bother saying anything, so yeah, I do like it. And a fine job too.

In conclusion, I'd say yeah, you guys would do better with an outside mixer, for the very reasons you stated.

Hug hug, kiss kiss.

PS: I want to have sex with your sax player. Hook me up.

Are you sure?

This is gonna cost you in Crown.

I think Magic would like to do it anyway.

No, this Crown. (http://www.crownroyalstore.com/age_verify.asp?saveURL=%2Fadword%2Easp%3Fkeyword%3 Dcrown%2Broyal%2Bwhiskey%26type%3Dgoogle%26%2E)

Merely the only good reason for the existence of Canuckistan.

My 'good buddy' rate is one 750ml jug of Special Reserve per tune, no exceptions.

But really, yeah, really.

Magic did say he was interested.

Dude!

That's just hurtful.

Crown Lager is like Yarra water with delusions of grandeur.
