Hi, just got home after 10 hours doing live sound. Got offered good money so thought I'd accept and try my hand at it.
Was supposed to do the job with Since1982 but he couldnt make it in time.
Job was micing a choir for a charity called shine where able kids and disabled kids perform. Did not want to fuck this up and let them down.
Didn't have Omni mics... just 9 NT5's.
Had to mic up a gallery for the show opening and a stage for the rest of the show.
So the organizer decided she wanted to tell me how to mic it up...which got me a little flustered. I tried several set ups but was struggling with feedback. I ended up wide left right facing downwards and 4 mics at the front just evenly paced.
Pics attached. I tried several setups but this worked the best. It was a very stressful challenge cos the organizer was saying why can't I get a good sound in London!!!! It was great in Brighton..
Things I learnt.
Live sound is worrying because it can be life or death. I was very concerned about one of the kids falling and knocking the PA over...which in turn could easily kill a guest.
Taped evreything evreywhere down to minimise that risk.
Not to panic when people are freaking at you (I was too hung over and nervous to get more nervous and care too much).
Live audio makes me shake..
anyway..evreyone was very happy. i might do it again..think it will make me a better engineer if it doesn't kill me.
Wish I could have got more level without feedback though but they all said it sounded great.
