It's like this - A friend of mine in the Miami area just had all of his Ortman specials removed from his inventory via 5 finger discount. He is looking for replacements and stumbled upon this...

Yeah Yeah, I know.

But is this mike of any repute for vocals? Does it compare to a 58 in any way shape or form? Note, this guy is a teacher in the Dade County educational system, and money does not grow on palms for him.

Thanks,

SantaPad

The 845's sound nothing like 58's. They have a rather strange midrange to my ears. Nothing remarkable sonically, though they do seem to have pretty high gain before feedback in a live situation.

FWIW (and, as free advice, worth every penny you spent!), we've been using these AKG D 9000 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/AKG-D-9000-High-Performance-Microphone-Buy-1-Get-1-Free?sku=271142), available quite cheaply from MF. Great-sounding live performance mic.

Cheers, Tim
