What file system is everyone using for their external (firewire) drives? The drives I've seen (and been using) are pre-formatted to FAT32. It's only now dawning on me that this might not be the best choice. Or is it? Thoughts, anyone? I'm running L8 on a MacBookPro.

Looks like I found the answer after a bit more research. I'm going with Mac OS Extended (journaled). I understand there's a bit of a difference of opinion out there with regard to journaling, but it seems to me that the slight overhead hit is worth the potential benefits. I'm no where close to testing the limits of my storage throughput, anyway, so I doubt I'll notice the overhead hit from the journaling. Also, I believe that if I do run into issues with journaling, it can be turned off.
I'm open to contrary opinions, should there be any.

Well, ProTools won't even let you record to FAT volumes on a Mac, and NTFS isn't supported for writes on a Mac. Digidesign recommend Journaling if you can use it, I believe.
I assume there's some reason for this?
I have all my drives either in FAT32 or in HFS+ but can only record to the HFS+ drives obviously... Logic however will record to anything you throw at it - even a USB flash drive.
