What are the requirements for CAPE?

Can anyone sign up or is it only for those with coloured metal disks hanging on the wall?

Just wondering...

It's a free-fer-all, seagate, so we'd better see your name on the sign-up page when it's happening! ; )

On said page there is a form where you input your talents and skill-levels, tastes and gear/tools-accessability and from there you're entered into E.Shauns giant Cape-cross-referencing digital turbine, where you come out a member of Team suMm.

Cape is not so much about chops as it is about the desire and commitment to work as part of a team.
You have to be prepared to put in some time (which doesn't necessarily mean a lot).
You should know something about file transfers (we might put something up to that effect soon) and have access to a good internet connection.
Be ready to communicate. Communication with your teammates will be a key to success.
And you should remember it's about having fun and interacting with other musicians, of all levels of talent.

Goes, I was going to suggest that thing you and Otek wrote a while back might be dusted off real soon now.

Seagate, if your CAPE experience is anything like mine has been, you will meet some fucking cool people and make genuinely interesting music with them-- and you may or may not ever meet them in real life. You will also get a handle on working over the net, if your connection and your hardware can stand it, as a team.

More will become clear as the signups approach.

Cool, don't have any chops or good gear, but have a resonable connection, I know how to transfer files and I can type...

Sounds like a great way to learn more stuff and make connections.

I'm in...

I found it and dusted it off.
Need to update a few links, but we'll get it here asap.

(for those who wonder, Otek and myself had written a sort of CAPE 101 primer. I'll post here when it's available again).

Signups for CAPE will be starting January 1st this season. I will be making an announcement to that effect rather soon.

CAPE is very "noob" friendly, as I usually try to build teams with a balance of new folks and seasoned vets. Anyone can sign up, and to date, I have never had to exclude anyone legitimate who has wanted to join. As long as your attitude is good, and your playing / performing is at the same level that you indicated it would be in the signups (details will be in the signup thread), you'll be sure to have a great Collaborative Audio Production Experience. :)

Look forward to having you!

Yeah you'll groove on it. Trust me. It's very very positive. Always there are some folks who get their panties in a bunch, but they're usually.....well the kind of folks who get their panties in a bunch anyway. There are a bunch or traditions and rituals around it and they're all pretty cool. All the smack talk takes place upfront, and when everything is turned in and posted it's basically a love fest. So all the pressure is self or team generated. It's pretty much instant ( if you can call 3 months instant ) integration into the community too, cause you'll have 6 or 7 folks you get to know pretty well who will thereafter be glad to get your back.

Oh and the best part is it comes with a FREE Toaster!

Also you need to watch out for Goes211. He'll try to invade your team and play cowbell.

Then of course aardvark will erase and redo everyone's tracks.

With my stuff that's not such a bad thing, as long as I get the credit for it!

It's all good, if you have a good attitude.

I count myself among the amateurs in the CaPE process - I'm a pretty good bass player, but it's mostly a hobby these days. So when it gets down to posting tracks, I've got to have a good attitude about criticism and suggestions. And if I need to spend some time on my parts, well, I need to buckle down and do some work. And not have any ego if my stuff needs to be tweaked/edited.

That being said, it's pretty fun. Well worth the trouble!

Absolutely n00b friendly (speaking as a recent n00b). Lot of fun, maybe some drama :Roll eyes:

Overall it was a very cool experience. Where else can you get folks from 3 different continents together and banging the toaster? Hell of a lot of fun, that!
