Hi Fellow Wombians,
Having read so much about how the audio config page was missing in L8, I thought to try copying the audio config between two songs in Logic 7. It was a very unsuccessful attempt. In "A" (my source) I had, oh, about 18 EXS-24's installed in Audio Instruments 5 - 24. When I pasted the audio config into "B" (destination) about the same number of Audio Instrument objects become Input objects (all set to Input 12). The only thing I saw copied over successfully was a lowly gain plug in Audio Track 1.
So what's the technique for doing this and getting it to all work nice 'n' stuff...

I asked this on LPH in a varation. I tried to Pack 8 tracks of Audio from another proj in a folder and fly from song A, into a mix I wanted to add them to. It not only forgot what all the tracks were called it reassigned the objects to either NO OUTPUT or it made them AUX retunrs from my mix template with the audio on the Aux object in the arrrange.
BOOOO

Honestly, I never really used the Audio Config screenset that much. Whatever I needed, i turned into channel strip presets and that always did me good when going to a different song.
I don't really miss it Logic 8.

I didn't use it that much either, but it was cool for:
• renaming your I/O's (global, like a system pref)
• letting you remove all of a specific type of plug (EQ, instrument, sends, etc.)
• having a window to look at that was pretty much unfamiliar and made you wonder if maybe there was something useful about it that you might use one day (a boy can dream, can't he?)
• complaining about when it went missing in L8. I still don't get it tho... makes me wonder, "why not make a f-king template out of the song if you want to use the same shit all over again?" But I f-king digress...
• a few other useful bits and bobs
All I know is that after doing some more experimenting today trying to copy/paste audio config between songs, I discovered that unless the number and type of audio objects are the same in the source and destination songs, rotsa ruck when you go to paste the audio config into the destination.
Still, I'd be interested in learning other people's experiences using copy/paste of audio config.

The only time I got it to work correctly in LP7 was whenI had recorded an album to 2 inch and then had transfered all the tapes into the same template in LP7 (Different songs of course tho) So since I had always laid out the 2inch in the same order all the audio objects were identical in the songs. I was able to copy it perfect from song to son that way, but man I can even imagine it working now, especially if you let the Comp auto manage you objects in the envorment. Things end up all over the map object numbewr wise.
