Ahhh the good old days. The Ampex 450 is what I cut my teeth on. They were very popular throughout studios in the late 70's and early 80's. They were easy to maintain and quite dependable.

I seem to recall Dozier saying that Motown buiklt their oen 8 track since they didn't have the money for a commercial model, in the BBC special.

That wasn't actually true. Mike had to talk Berry into building it rather than buying one because we needed remote control input switching and punch capability.
