View Full Version : Reverb on room mics?

Ok. I've recorded some drums, but threw up a mono, omni room mic, about 5 or 6 meters back, 3 meters high. I've found that to get this to sit well in the mix, to "fit", I have to put a very short (think 50ms) reverb on it.
Is this standard practice or am I just a weirdo?

I often put a room IR on the ambience mic(s) when recording in a small room.

Regardless of the size room, I always add IR reverb to drums.

I will delay room mikes, I will also compress them very hard in order to get more room, from the room. Generally I don't add reverb to the room image, but I will add a uniform spot reverb to any close miked item that I feel doesn't vibe the way I'd like.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The room in question is one I've posted pics of before - anyone remember palm-tree-cock?
