This is just a publicity stunt. It already got thrown out once and how the investigations have been conducted is no secret. The manner of bringing the lawsuits against anonymous parties without knowing anything about them was mandated by a federal court and has never been some draconian RIAA plot to abuse the public.

There are interesting aspects to watch. Not, as Bob O pointed out, with respect to federal civil procedure, but rather with respect to a) electronic discovery and b) privacy rights. Thanks for the post.
