Does anyone of you guys have a solid system that includes:
Mac, Logic + TDM.
I`ve got Mac Dual G5 (10.4.10.) Using Logic 7.2.3 host with TDM (now PT HD2 version 7.4. before 7.1.1)
My system keeps crashing unexpectedly every now and then. It has been doing it more or less all the time not depending on which PT 7 version iīve had. Iīd like to continue using this system since it gives quite a lot processing power. Any of you have a same kind of system working without crashing?? Native and TDM.

Try dropping the TDM part - and see if that works.
Now put it back.
Then drop Logic - and see if that works.
I am not lucky enough to have anything more than the LE version of ProTools - but you could always try process of elimination.
Just a thought ... even though it sounds stupid.

You do know the necessary maintenance steps when you own a Mac right?
I've run both PTLE and Logic together on my system now for over a year (Logic on its own considerably longer than that), and it works perfectly.

What??!!! Maintenance??!!!
I thought Mac's magically did that when you weren't looking!
How's about everyone sharing some of their favorite Mac maintenance routines?

There's always maintenance beyond the cron jobs that should be done, such as checking permissions and stuff like that.
I do know some people that are running Logic with a TDM system and they claim that they have no problems. I'll have to see if I can rattle their cages for some hints. I'll admit that it's beyond me... I'm basically a CoreAudio dude.
BTW, congrats Dave on your addition to the IHR podcast. We'll have to hook up before you move out west.

Thanks Jord.
Yeah, I got 10 weeks left - we should be able to find some time in there to get together!
Thanks about the IHR gig - Paul and Derek are absolutely great guys to work with! It's funny that I'm dubbed the "PC Guy" as I switched to Mac/Logic as my main DAW about six months ago. I still use the PC boxes / apps, but they're not the first thing I call up when I do my "real work"... :)

I've yet to achieve a decently stable system just using my Mac with nothing plugged into it. My box goes to Mac hospital today (I think my troubles might be hardware-related), so I'm back on XP for a few days at least, and it's feeling pretty solid by comparison. That's not something I thought I'd say!
Can someone point me in the direction of the maintenance and housekeeping procedures alluded to in here? This is my first Apple machine, and I'm not really across all that stuff.

What do you have and what are you running with it (plug-ins, interfaces, etc).
Save for some aspects of BFD2, our Macs are rather solid (mind you FXP is working on our CPU spiking issues with Logic, and hopefully we'll see a fix soon).

Cool... I'm currently working up in north end of T.O at the moment (Weston Rd - Steeles Ave). Too bad the only places I am really familiar with here are Subway and Tim Horton's (although I do know where the nearest Long & McQuade is... very important :D ).
The only interaction I have with Paul and Derek is on the forums... and they are good guys there. :)
Only six months ago? Perhaps, that's why you're dubbed the PC guy. :)
Funny enough, I won't admit to using PC's at my new job (I'm being forced to use one... but I do carry my MacBook Pro with me for relief). If it weren't for the fact that I need to use Flash, I would have at least dropped Ubuntu on this box.

Iīve been checking permissions and stuff and tried to find out the answers on digidesign, waves and Logic pages but so far havenīgot a solution. I know that it might be just one driver somewhere... thereīs a good reason why people shouldnīt keep updating all the time if they once get a good system rollin. Especially when you got many softwares working together at the same time. I had the same kinda system working flawlessly when i had Logic 5, PT 24 Mix, Waves Gold ....and some Mac i donīt remember anymore but thatīs a long ago.
My set up (dual G5, Logic 7.2.3, PT 7.4. HD2, Mac OS 10.4.10, Waves Gold...) is doing pretty fine until i use a lotta plugs on both sides TDM and Native. At that stage the buses start making a loud noise when opening them as well. Then i start working with slower pace hoping the machinery will hang in there. On the other hand Logic might just crash when working on the arrange and moving something there without having a shit load of plugs. I realize this complaining propably might not make sense to you all.
Anyways, iīd like to know if someone has an identical (or close) system as i got but maybe something different like OS, different Mac or something. Aah, maybe i should delete this whole crieing msg. But i wonīt. Ok back to work.

You all know that the checking permissions (and repairing them) woodo apparently NEVER, EVER touches any files inside your home directory, right?
And that's where the files most likely to be screwed up resides. Like Application support files, preferences and so on.
I red this about a year ago, and it was an interesting read. Repair permissions was there as an option for OS X 10.2, I think. Apparently it also only touches files that has been installed with a certain installer app, I think the default installer app from Apple.
As a side note to this, since I read that article I decided to do a little experiment on my own, and not repair permission on any machine I have. So for a year now, I haven't done that on my laptop used in work, or on my iMac used for music.
And guess what....they are stable as hell. :)
I think I posted the links here in some other thread, I'll see if I can grab them for you.
Ok...here's the link: http://www.unsanity.org/archives/000410.php
