Wow, I feel famous.
Yeah, no shit.
But seriously, I've gotta say I'm a little bit dissapointed with the new installment.
Slippy doesn't know who Scarlett Johansen is?
Fucking shameful.

It's because you don't know much about technology.
Clear your cache, reload and it will appear...as by magic.

I just love listening to somebody talk about something they actually give a fuck about and know how to deliver the goods in.
I wish I had a question worth answering.

OK.
As noted by Doc Smith in the "New Installment Alert" sticky.
More madness is being uploaded to our insuperable audio masters here at the Wombie.
Whole bunch of random bullshit. Purportedly a "Biggenation" session...
Which probably should have been called "destroy a fairly careful balance in a ham handed fashion session". HOHOHO.
Ahh me. just listened to it for the first time since we printed the fucking thing....
Pretty sure the cookie monster vocals are too big/loud now.
May be other shit tanked as well. I dunno. WHATEVER. Too busy to do a proper job checking this shit before I print it. Kill me.
Or pay me.
KIDDING!!! KIDDING!!!
Maybe we'll have a "Patch up the Biggenation" session.
No wait... maybe we won't and pretend we did.
Anyhoo.
New mess.
Hope there's SOMETHING in there.
XOXOX

Once again I'm having no luck downloading any of the Biggenation stuff.
I know this is a pain but you might want to post direct download links for peon's like me who can't get their computers to do what they're supposed to do.
Thanks

I'm excited to hear the Biggenation stuff, which finally showed up over here, but I have to say: it's not a good idea to give all the files the same title, "SDGT 12.13.06 EDIT". I listen to these things by opening them all in MoviePlayer, and playing the snips when they come up. This time, I was looking at seven little player windows all with exactly the same name. So could we drop the 'all the same mp3 title' for future ones? Please?

I'm at 31 minutes right now. Man, if Charles Dye ever needed a good example of digital vs analog workflow, this has to be it!

Chris, you're probably not seeing the whole file name in its entirety. The files ALL have different names. Yet when we're dealing with a series, it sorta makes senses that the files all share a partially common name.

Knightsy is dead correct.
I just endured the first God knows how long(30-40 mins?) of this and it was positively dreadful.
Sorry.
I really do ask FAR too much of the listener in this session. Ahh me. Fuck it. Just skip forward until something starts happening with the snippets.
Once again, the first 30+ minutes is primarily a complete waste of bandwidth with me just grab-assing around with the assistants, and concurrently taking FOREVER to tell a single droll 'audio gaff you'll never live down' story.
We kinda ABRUPTLY get to work(if ya wanna call it that) after this and(I'm hoping) the signal to noise ratio drops a little.
I dunno. Can't endure listening anymore.
Best regards, and again, sorry for the idiocy.
I have a vague memory of the "Biggenation2" segment(which should be forthcoming) having a much better "informational yield".
Famous last words.
XOXOXO
SM.

Looking forward to it- this is what I got out of the first biggenation, since you seem to be a bit in the fog as far as 'what people are able to learn from this'.
Hit the 2-buss harder and things will get SMALLER.
Slippy compresses in lots of different places, both in series and in parallel, and this is to make stuff tight and controlled so it does specific things.
Then you go and loosen it back up again until it rages, but you want to have it rage AND still do the tight/controlled things you found.
Some balancing is done on drums only, getting a big smashing sound through internal balances rather than only compression. Drums are still exploding with compression but the distance has to be there too.
A LOT of sounds are coming out squashed but set back, not set forward like Charles Dye likes to do.
A LOT of sounds are coming out with a dynamic hit, or point, that is just a bit bigger than the sustained/compressed body of the sound. Kick with fatness that's just a bit bigger than the sustain, guitars with attack that's just a bit bigger than the sustain. Without all the compression you wouldn't have the smash-ness, but the slightly bigger attack makes it rage. This attack is different for different instruments.
The bass has mids that come out to match the guitars- not the drums, like Charles Dye who likes to make drums and bass gel with each other. Slippy is making bass and dirt guitars gel with each other, and setting the drums behind them but bigger than them.
Looking forward to Biggenation 2, dude :)

I'd disagree. The story telling is part of what makes your audio series fucking GOLDEN. If it was just information spew, I, for one, probably wouldn't like it as much. FWIW.

Slipperman, don't even trip on how you sound.
I gain AE common sense every time I listen.
Maybe even some of the unteachable shit.
That goes a long ways in teaching the craft part this trade.
Thanks man, I think we all really appreciate your efforts.

Dude, worry not about the informational content.
If nothing else it at least gives the rest of us hope that's it's not JUST us spending far too long on the little things ;)

You can learn a lot from somebody who knows their shit from paying heed to how they view things in general, not just techniques.
The crust of a motherfucker is where he lives, not in an ivory tower.
