So my dad got me a gift certificate for 250 bucks for a local music store.

I figured that for once I would just buy something fun/not vital...instead of more boring baffles or cdrs.....

Any ideas of some cool cheap toy I should get?

I was thinking of getting either the presonus or frontier audio 1 faer controller things...or maybe get an mbox mini to edit on my laptop with...

ideas?

M-box mini is a good idea. Or some Beyerdynamic DT770s or Sennheiser HD 650s if you don't have great cans.

yeah, and if they don't have lava lamps, try a ukulele, a kazoo, a melodica, a shaker and some other colorful stuff.

I have the presonus faderport, and it's cool, but it's hardly any fun.

Knastratt is indeed mad.

Though once you try his cooking, all is forgiven. :D

Can't resist. Here's one of my gems. Try it.

Buy a box of good quality shrimp in brine. The round kind with like 300 grams.

Put a knob of butter in a pot and allow to melt. Put in a heaped tablespoon of wheat flour and stir. Strain the shrimps over the pot to let all of the brine in. Should be 1,5-2 dl. Add 2-3 dl of double cream and freshly ground white pepper to taste.

Squeeze 1/4 a lime and add a pinch of demerara sugar into the pot. Chop dill and add.

Boil up and let simmer for 2 mins.

In a soup bowl, put a tablespoon of creme fraiche [sour cream to you 'merkins. - otek's note]. Arrange the shrimps around it to form a mountain. Decorate with a thin slice of lime and a bouquet of dill. Pour in the soup.

To go gastrosophic on it - add a pinch of saffron and the seeds from half a vanilla pod. Then you grate Emmentaler or Gruyère (or whatever just NOT Parmesan. For once!) over the plate (prior of decorating) and gratinate until the cheese turns lightly brownish.

Decorate as above and serve with small cubes of breadcrumbs fried in a good olive oil. LOTS of olive oil.

Serve a Chablis Grand Cru with that.

Enjoy - Pär

I just bought a ukulele and a dulcimer cheaper than 250, well each. I'm really happy with the dulcimer, the uke is ok.

+1 on the Beyerdynamic dt770's I LOVE mine.

$50 over budget, unless you can get a deal at the store, but I absolutely cannot live without mine:

you'd be surprised how MUCH it's useful
