I'm looking for some pres to interface with my 192i/o. Mostly for drum micing.
I can get a Digi Pre for about the same price as an ISA428 with the digital card.
I like the ISA pres (I have an isa220) but have never heard the DigiPre pres...
I guess I'm asking if Digidesign pres are worth half that of Focusrite ISA pres.
What would YOU do?

Or should I go with an API lunchbox and cards to start a collection of those (as is the mode lately)?

you don't have to be a designer to make good stuff with the internet.

I like my 428. I use it for recording VO/Narration. and the digital out is nice too.

And if you don't have the expertise to make them yourself, there are options for others to build them for you. PM me if interested (I can recommend the guy who built 3 for me).

I found an 8 space lunchbox with 4 original OSA pres.
Now to find 4 more to fill it out... and the money to buy them...:icon_eek:

I agree with the other suggested routes. I own an ISA428, and a lunchbox with both API and Vintage Design pres.

The 428 is pretty darn average compared to API or the M581.

Not that they're total, unusable crap. However, having bought the ISA first, struggled with them, then buying the API stuff; they are vastly superior in every way, sonically speaking.

Of course, it depends. They're very different preamplifiers.

i quite like the 428,
even against api's, tg2's shadow hills and great rivers....
Its just another flavour
