Clabber, Clabber, Clabber, Clabber-ation that is...

So a while back I posted the working tracks for this song in the critique forum and got some suggestions about what else would work with it. At this point, I'd like to open the floor and INVITE any of yall to grab the tracks, add instruments, vocals, comments, arrangement ideas, whatever with the idea that anyone interested can help me in getting this song out of the scratch-pad form and into something finished.

The working tracks can still be heard at:
This Link Here (http://dikledoux.com/mp3_files/TheSunWorkingTracks.mp3)

And if you want to get individual MP3s of the drums, guitars and vocals as each a stereo file you can go to:
ftp://dikledoux.com/ (ftp://dikledoux.com/)
and login with:
Username: the_sun@dikledoux.com
password: the_sun

I also have the 24bit 44.1k wav files, but I figured I'd hold off on that until things move along. For now, I believe I've got the bandwidth with my webhost to handle uploads for days, but if everyone can keep their submittals to 128k MP3 files until things get sorted out it'd be a help.

Song Notes: ALL OF THE EXISTING TRACKS ARE SCRATCH TRACKS. I don't intend for these to be final tracks or even this arrangement to be necessarily final. I don't even wanna be the singer on the thing cuz I KNOW there are those amongst us that can absolutely nail this song. The tempo is at 85 bpm and the key is somekinda general C major. I wrote it when I was trying out "new standard tuning" (as used by Robert Fripp, I believe) because it was too glorious sounding to pass up. I stumbled across the entire thing, so I don't have the slightest idea what the chord changes actually are, and they're open for alteration just like EVERYTHING ELSE.

The only direction I can give at this point is: Think of what it feels like when you're outdoors on a gorgeous day and you look up at the sun and close your eyes and you can't HELP but grin like a kid. That's what the chords I stumbled on made me feel like and that should be the guiding vibe.

So...

I humbly submit to the whim of the mob and anyone who wants to have a go at it all the way through mixing is welcome. Whatcha got?

dik

PS - yes, I know that CaPE is coming up (and you can bet yo' ass I'll be involved in that). But I'm going by all indications that the clabber forum isn't just about CaPE, it's about pushing the envelope on the idea of collaboration over the web and I've made a pre-NewYearResolution to get off my ass and start writing again. I figger this is the best place to start. No time like the present, no?

I'm thinking of a keyboard part for the chorus and bridge.

Probably have to wait 'til after the holidaze.

I can't log onto your ftp site, Dik. I get a windoze "ftp folder error".

I love this song, BTW. Reminds me of Traffic.

For those of you having problems with the FTP login, here's what I'm doing:

I follow the link (I'm using IE) and when it opens, I get the error that says: "Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you..." and I select OK.

Then I select "file/login" as from the IE menu and login with the username and password as shown above. That puts me in the home dir that I've setup for this.

If that still doesn't work, PLEASE pm me with specific error info and even what browser you're working with and I'll get with tech support and get it sussed out.

I'm SO looking forward to hearing what you guys have in mind for this. It'll be like the holidaze AFTER the holidaze for me <g>.

I had some fun with this and my bass this afternoon. Let me know what sucks. Since there was a lot of "G" happening - and playing the bass I had the power to make it G/Em7/Cmaj7 at will - I may have gone somewhere other than what was originally planned.

Fiz,

I like the movement through the bridge part especially - pumpin' and then climbin' out. Very cool. Kinda diggin' the monster echo idea too, and the mp3 garble does cool things to the harmonies on the chorus.

I'm gonna keep this along with other things as they come in and then cherry pick (this is the luxury part of this little process). So if you can hang on to the bass track for a while, I'd appreciate it. If you need to reclaim the space, just send your individual bass track up to the FTP site and get it outta your hair. If you got a 24-bit, 44.1k wav file I'd be grateful, but whatever ya got is cool for now.

Thanks so much,

dik

I'll up the wav files when you're ready to accept my load ;-) Here's a straighter version. I think the chorus is definitely better on this one going between Em - C. There's also more harmonic movement in the verse.

Yeah - on MY voice the echo sounds great. It's everyone ELSE I like to hear all stripped down.

Hey Fiz. If it's ok with you, go ahead and FTP me both those bass parts. I'm going to start building from them. I like the eighth note pump, maybe just not through the verses on the entire song. I'd like to use some of that, your bridge from the first pass and then see if ScratchyPotts can send me his bass track to use on the early parts.

Scratchy?

I feel like these will give the song a STRONG foundation for the other bits. I'll post the developing versions as we go along. Now all I need are OTHER parts. (someone please sing this for me...)
