Kenny,

Bought it, watched it, loved it... Thanks as always..

Also, I have been fooling around with tightening up hard rock, heavy distorted guitars.. Lemme know what you think about this...

For every distorted part, I also get a DI signal, which of course shows the transients way better in the waveform. You analyze both the DI and amp track. Now the DI signal is usually fairly accurate, but the distorted parts are usually screwy due to lack of good transient info..

At this point, I delete all of the markers on the amp track, and then GROUP both DI and amp track. You can then quantize. This works even better for tightening up a doubled guitar part, because you are working with more accurate markers on the DI track, plus you can see it a lot better visually when lining things up..

And finally, I know these videos take time, but I would definitely be willing to pay A LOT of money for a video that is showing a pro such as yourself, go through a basic tracking session with drums, bass, guitar, and vocals.. Obviously every session is different, but knowing the thought process behind the decisions would be invaluable, I think. I have learned a great deal of stuff from you on the technical side, but I also have benefitted greatly from seeing your workflow, etc.. So if you wanna just get someone to film you on your next session and give a couple comments on what's going on, I will be hitting up the good ole' PayPal in no time..

Thanks,
Matt

OH NO!!! Just got done watching some of the videos. Great stuff but it looks like Kenny caught the "Digidesign Bald guy virus" by saying "NICE!" alot. hahahaha

Great stuff Kenny. Been using this feature for a bit now too but always good to see how others approach it.

Good job Kenny.
I was hoping you'd explain in what instances you prefer BD over
EA. Unless i missed that part..? I agree with EA making it easier
to not 'over-edit' though. As a fellow practitioner of taking the
"easy road", it's funny how being lazy with BD actually results
it MORE editing.

I also wanted to see in what instances you might use X-form to render.
That thing takes so long on our crappy old G4 that i'll do it on my
laptop if i want that but even then.. Is it worth it? I've seen Bob O
say it sounds much better, but for what?

Otherwise, good job. I didn't learn anything new about EA but i
got to see your workflow which is what i wanted. I haven't tracked
a band all year as for some retarded reason i've only been getting
mix jobs(i never get *just* mix jobs), but i start an album next
month which i'll get to play with EA some more no doubt. Good
chance to put some of your workflow tips into practice.

Thanks! :)

I don't really use BD too much anymore. An occasional tamb loop or any drum loop for that matter. Of course, I still use it for drum replacement. EA just makes it easier (as you mentioned) to use it less.

To be honest, I haven't had the time to try every algorithm to my satisfaction yet. Some people at the DUC say that printing to another track sounds better than rendering. I haven't experienced this yet. I will do further testing. In fact, I don't think I've used X-form on any of my productions yet.

Thanks.

Yeah, it would be great to hear what you think of the different rendering. I'm play with it some this week. USed EA to fix some horn section stuff I was tracking. Sounds super tight now. Need to render it out still.

Those look like some nice videos, sir.

I may have to make the purchase - just to be in the "know"

Even though Logic is my primary DAW, I could still benefit from this (assuming what I read was correct).

Per an article with Mark Ethier (co-founder and CEO of iZtope), he made a comment saying As a plug-in, it [Radius] couldn't have the seamless integration that Adobe Audition, CakeWalk Sonar, Digidesign Pro Tools, and others have achieved by licensing the Radius algorithm.

Therefore, I may be able to utilize Kenny's tutorial when using Radius.

Neat.

Okay..maybe this might have been the wrong thread to ask that question :D

Anyway, I wasn't trying to stir the pot, but I'm just sort of surprised that PT didn't do this already..I just kind of assumed it did, and now I have a couple of PT buddies saying : Hey, check this out!! Isn't this cool???

To which I give them the only answer I can: Um..sure.
