This was me asking about demo files of before-and-after mastering, and whether to use EQ or just show loudness while leaving tone unaltered. Chose the latter, see below.

So I decided to just illustrate smash levels, not my always-dubious EQ judgement :D
For anybody who didn't give a rat's ass but enjoys stupid fun, here's me wearing my Vlad The Impaler hat, matching the levels of 'Californication', long known as a high water mark of obnoxious splat. Like I said, my chain does pack up a bit but Vlad's goes fuckin' flat as a piece of paper plus all his bass goes absolutely bye-bye and mine doesn't. Source, level-matched CRUSH plus if that didn't sound impressive level-matched, the normal output of the CRUSH which is +11.66 db of sonic mayhem.

And here is my actual RECOMMENDATION for obnoxious splat- neither Californication nor Queens of the Stone Age "Little Sister" (which equate to the same postnuclear ME abuse) but a Sterling track, Green Day's "American Idiot". That one is only +9.78 db from the source, but it makes a lot of difference in how packed-up the sound gets. Same deal- source, level-matched, and the full-on version in case the level-matched doesn't sound very impressive all by itself- nor should it, nothing else is done so it should be sounding just like the source if everything is right.
"American Idiot" levels- pretty cleanly and dynamically. Enjoy  if that ain't clean and dynamic enough for you, oh by all means ask for 'Oasis-Wonderwall' levels or less. Twist my arm ;)

Lastly- no flat-topping, guys. You won't see it in top Sterling work like 'American Idiot' either, but you will see it all over 'Californication', and I matched that without flat-topping.

I'm sorry I didn't get more feedback on the EQ/no-EQ/you-suck front, but it's all good. This extra stuff is for the enjoyment of the six people who listened to the original pitiful twanking music clip... cheers, have fun :)

Thanks Malice- MUCH appreciated. Right now since I'm sticking to straight loud level demos, it matters less how the music clip is- I really don't have the chops to carry off that style though I made a game try.
It's more about, does the track hold together at these very elevated levels? That's why I put up accurately level-matched examples- in theory you shouldn't be able to tell the difference in an ABX test reliably between the source and the 'Green Day' levels one. I think anyone can hear the packing-up that happens to the 'Californication' level one, but in my defense, that is crazy-stupid level smashing and people should not do it.
I'm not showing you the 'Iggy Pop Raw Power' one. That one's just silly :)
